Today the signal is almost completely gone from Global Calgary. I usualy have near one hundred percent signal on this channel ,but today it was down to under 40% and at times there was no signal at all. This has been happening on and off for the last little while. I've also noticed a drop in signal on city Tv, and Omni, although they aren't as drastic. CFCN,CBC, and CTS all have high signal strength as they always have. Has any one else noticed this?

1. CICT-HD (Global Calgary 2.1 - 1080i)
2. CFCN (CTV Calgary 4.1 - 1080i)
3. Citytv (Citytv Calgary 5.1 - 1080i)
4. CBRT-DT (CBC Calgary 9.1 - 720p)
5. CTS-HD (CTS Calgary 32.1 - 1080i)

You can get them from The Source for that price as well when they go on sale. Very nice little antenna indeed, I have two! ;) Congrats on joining the ranks of being a cable cutter! Best choice I ever made! Nobody in the family misses it now that it's gone. They sure grumbled when trying to make the decision however! ;)

xSTRIKER -- you forgot you can still get analog 16 (French CBC, or SRC). Alas, the bell tolls for that; 5 days until fade to black.

I live in "Crescent Heights" and I am get the analog 16 french channel. I have been comparing the quality and I can say that it does seem better than Shaw HD.

Previous posts have mentioned difficulties in Hidden Valley with OTA reception. Use the Search This Thread tool to the upper right beside Thread Tools and put in "Hidden" and/or local street names as your search term to see them.

Did you have any luck? I'm in Hanson Ranch too - I tried an el-cheapo amplified antenna I got at Princess Auto and am able to pick up all the stations i should according to TV Fool - now looking to find an attic mount (or garage sidewall mount) antenna for a more permanent solution.

I ordered and just received today an Antennas Direct DB2e, which I plan to mount in the attic. I just connected it to the TV and set it on top of the dresser to see, and it gets amazing reception without even being aimed. It will be a couple of weeks until I get up in the attic to get it set up fully. It was on sale for $50 from sunnydirect.ca so I figured I'd take a flier on it and see if it worked. So far so good! I can even dance around in front of the antenna without the signal breaking up.

After balancing on my dresser for a few weeks, I finally mounted the antenna up in my attic. Aimed it using my old Boy Scout compass. I had existing cable runs in my attic for my previous satellite dish. Cable runs to the basement where it goes into a splitter (we have 2 TVs). Cables run from the basement utility room back up to the second floor bedroom and to the basement TV. Reception and picture on both TVs is fantastic. The only problem we noted at all with the antenna sitting on the dresser is that we are East of the airport flight path and on certain nights if a plane flew through the signal path, we lost signal momentarily. That may improve with the antenna in the attic (as it is pointed more level, whereas on the dresser it actually had to be pointed skyward a bit so as to not fall over).

I have similar trouble here when news/traffic helicopters buzz overhead during the rush hours :)

Hi all, I read through the thread trying to gather as much info as I could for the Lethbridge area. If I am correct, there is only 4 channels I can receive in my area and they can all be accessed by using an indoor Zenith Silver Sensor vhf/uhf or a Terk HDTVI antenna.

I don't want to waste anyone's time, I am just trying to confirm if I have the right information, is this correct?

This is my tvfool results... http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3dcc49e324a71e6c

The 4 local channels should be receivable with any antenna. You shouldn't need an amplified version.

Hello all,

I live in Cougarridge Calgary and I am getting rid of Shaw. What specific indoor antennas do you recommend?

Vicar,

I'm not sure about others on the site but I've been pondering whether and how to reply to your post.

It is generally considered good form to indicate in your very first post that you have read the FAQs for the topic at hand.

Calgary is UHF only.

Living right in the middle of all the transmission towers coming at you from 3 different. directions presents some unique benefits and challenges.

Questions...

Indoor or outdoor antenna?
How many TVs?
All channels or particular preferences?

EGeek,

I was looking for indoor however I just brought home a terk hdtva. I now have 6 crystal clear channels on the main floor. I guess Ill buy another for the second floor tv as I do not want to crawl around in the attic .

Terk is a good choice. I have two (one lent to a friend) that I use for testing and using at the office etc. There is a Terk thread here somewhere as well.

On the second floor in Cougar Ridge all you need is a small piece of speaker wire, plugged into the antenna input. The challenge is on the first floor and and in the basement, and the Terk there is needed to fight the mighty reflections.
