I have seen posted elsewhere in this forum that CICT was to broadcast DTV from the roof of their studio during the transition period, and then post-transition they would then broadcast from their existing tower (which is currently broadcasting analog from the top of broadcast hill.)

But the CRTC decission posted by RonXYZ states:

The digital undertaking would operate from the existing CICT-TV tower on channel 41C with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 3,200 watts.

I don't drive near their studio very often, and I haven't paid attention to the layout of the structures/buildings at their studio. Do they have a tower at the studio now? Does the statement above from CRTC "... would operate from the existing CICT-TV tower ..." refer to a tower at their studio, or to the tower currently broadcasting analog up on broadcast hill? In other words, does this CRTC decission mean that they are NOT going to broadcast from the roof of the studio during transition? If so, that will help a lot of Calgarians during transition with regards to aiming antenna's.

I was also taken by that part of the CRTC announcement - I hope someone will call CICT to determine exactly which tower is being discussed. If its the analogue tower west of CFCN I'd be happy for Calgarians. If its on top of the studios over at Barlow and Centre Ave NE I'd be irritated since many viewers would have to contend with the stations being at vastly different azimuths.

From Application No. 2008-1047-5 (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/public/broad/applications/2008/2008-1047-5.zip):

4.3 Describe in detail the transmission site, tower (antenna supporting structure) and other facilities (antenna, building, etc.) that you intend to use for the proposed television undertaking.

I live in Coventry and am unable to get the CTV-HD feed. When I do a scan on my TV, it finds 1 channel, but when the scan is done, I don't get any channels. So the signal is probably too weak. I am using an indoor Jensen antenna.
So turns out I was doing it wrong this whole time. I didn't realize my TV had a separate "Digital" input. I kept on trying to find CTV HD on my analog input. So I'm actually getting a crystal clear feed now.

Glad you're enjoying it in digital now - which model of TV is it?

I noticed that E (chca 1) in Calgary has increased the strength at there tower to 651mh video and 655 auto so it now comes in clear. I thought that The E network was for sale so Global wouldn’t put anything money into that network. Hopefully if they are working on their tower in Calgary they will soon have Global HD up and running

The 650 MHz figure is their frequency, which doesn't change unless the feds move them to another channel. The ERP (Effective Radiated Power) figure is the one that we need to look at. ;)

Thanks for the info the scrolling at the bottom of screen of E (station 44) doesnt give me that info. It now comes in perfect now; before it was mostly snow with outdoor antenna now it comes in perfect with cheep indoor antenna

Yep, it could be weather related too, but I see different ERP levels for CHCA so I'm not sure which one they're at right now:

Yes, the power is way up and now they are scrolling a message which goes somethibg like "A new channel is up, ... 44, CHCA etc., if you encounter interference call ...".

Many thanks for posting the antenna chart - I am in a Mount Pleasant house in Calgary (TV on main floor) and am getting tired of constantly messing around with my indoor antenna to get good reception, so I am looking at getting an outdoor one. I am getting all the local channels (2,4,5,9,13,16,32,38,44) but the reception is very variable from day to day.

I understand from the forum that I should go for something with both UHF and VHF capabilities, but I am confused about differentiating between the VHF/FM/UHF and VHF HI/UHF. At first glance, it looks like the first might improve radio? reception but I have never gotten any access to the radio stations through my new 37" Toshiba TV (how do you do that, or do you attach the antenna to the stereo as well (???)) From the Knowledge Base it sounds like the VHF HI gives you a broader range of channels that it can access (ack - lost track of which channels are covered by 'lo' vs 'hi' ) - would the 'high' be better so that we can get channel 44 for example?

Ok, now I think that I have confused myself into indecision  help....!

Hi mellbell416, from your location its just a matter of finding the "sweet spot" indoor from where your antenna always gets good signal, but that takes a lot of trial and error and might never be found.

If you could put up an antenna outside all your reception troubles would go away. In your case one of the VHF/UHF combo antennas would be ideal, with the FM radio stations being a nice side effect. TVs don't have FM radio receivers, but you would take the coax downlead from your antenna and split it to each TV and FM receiver separately. The diagram in Post #7 of the OTA FAQ shows such a set up.

Could someone please take some digital photos of the on screen info scroll and post the sequence here?

Has the station come up in analogue or is it in digital?

cheers!

Ok, Stampeder (thanks for the quick reply!)

From your post it sounds like I should be considering the Delhi 932, 933, or 934, so I will focus on that. I have started hunting for Calgary antenna suppliers but nothing obvious is popping up. I will need them to install it on my roof for me - I may have some talents, but mechanical stuff is a blind spot for me (it once took me an hour to put together a wheelbarrow...)

I looked in the Shopping forum but didn't see anything on local antenna suppliers so I thought that I would ask for recommendations. Could anyone help me here?

I have started hunting for Calgary antenna suppliers but nothing obvious is popping upThere are some folks earlier in this thread who found a source of them at a shop on or near Blackfoot Trail SE. Just use the Search This Thread tool to the upper right beside Thread Tools and put in the search term "delhi dealer" to see a bunch of those posts. The Delhi's are disappearing so you might want to explore the alternatives on the Antenna Chart or offered by the Calgary Delhi dealer.

I cannot scan in 44 out in the cochrane area.

I need to improve my signal with my SBGH. I only have like 40% on cfcn. Once we get some better weather I am going to mount my antenna higher up, and hopefully that will increase the signal. If not, I will look into something else.

In the meantime I found out that my Panasonic TV has a digital tuner, which I has always thought it did not. TV is almost three years old.
