Just note that the current Rogers HD box (3100HD) does not downconvert an HD signal at all, so when you're tuned to an HD channel, there is no signal on the composite or s-video outputs. The 3250HD will address this though.

Yep, since not able to record any HD programming right now I was wondering what the recorded quality from some HD programming from *C or Rogers would be like using the D-VHS decks.
great info lads - thanks.
As John points out the current Rogers HD box (SA3100HD) does NOT downconvert. The S-Video/composite lines are not showing the HD channel. And since D-VHS decks do not have component INPUT, you can't record an HD channel with a Rogers box.
This is one reason why some of us are so eager to ditch the SA3100. There is no way to record an HD channel, even in SD.
With the 3250HD/8000HD you'll be able to record the raw digital stream over Firewire, or the downconverted HD signal from the S-Video/composite.
Gary
Cool side note: You can display the diagnostics screens of the SA3100HD out S-Video/composite WHILE the component connectors are delivering HD.
