It just donned on me that we have prepaid credit cards, Visa/Mastercard in Canada, so we can just use those as an alternative to the PSN Cards
Another way is to have a US based bank account and get a Visa-Debit card with it.. for US PSN that is.
The spending would be kept under control as the amount would only be up to the prepaid amount or what you keep in your bank account.
Now if I can just figure out how to update my PSN information.

While I was at EBGAMES / GAMESTOP today to payoff my Pre-Order of Killzone 2.
I came across a Sony Playstation Field Representative and we began talking about this and that, and how my home is well SONY EQUIPPED.
1. SONY PS-ONE
2. SONY-PS2
3. SONY-PSP
4. SONY-PS3-80Gig BC
5. SONY BRAVIA 40" HDTV
6. SONY HANDYCAM
7. SONY RDRHX780 DVD Recorder
8. SONY HTSF2300 5.1 channel BRAVIA Theatre System.
Guess What I Heard?
Canada will be getting the PSN Cards within the next couple of months.
Plus we'll be getting the Movies and TV Show Downloads within the next couple of months, we would have gotten it sooner but CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission) has it on hold right now due to Legal Issues regarding the downloading of Television Shows etc....

Definitely interesting, but there should be at least one other source on the net to help confirm this. I can't find anything right now.
Maybe Hugh has the contacts to follow up?
If you are worried about giving CC number do this
go to Money Mart get a prepaid master card
load a hundred dollars on it and no worries
card works everywhere

Prepaid card is a good solution but there is typically some kind of activation fee, which adds to the overall cost.
At the end of day, I think it depending on how the PSN points will work (ie 10 points for $1 or 12 points per $1 ) and how the points pricing works compared to the current dollar pricing

There are no points for PSN - the system uses real dollars (ex. a game costs $9.99 plus taxes).

I just got a BMO Mosaik Prepaid Travel Mastercard, and it works great for PSN purchases.
There is an activation fee of $9.95, but you only have to pay that every 3 years (when you renew the card). Aside from the fact that you have to load at least $100 each time you put funds on the card, it's great. You can load funds onto it using online banking bill payments if you don't have a BMO bank account.

Silly me ... I've even bought a few items off PSN already.
I have noticed the prices still hasn't changed since the adjustment last summer, which actually makes Canadian PSN Store cheaper than the US counterpart.
Might be a good time to snatch up some games/songs before they catch on.

Yeah, I keep expecting the Canadian prices to increase. When I was in LA last Oct I bought $100 in PSN cards because I had some US $s I bought when the rate was at $0.98, so I figured it was about par, and I'd save money when the Canadian prices went up and I was buying from the US store. Instead I have $100 credit on the US store that I'm not using.
