My kid's Wii has been acting a little strange as of late... We've noticed that it appears to turn itself on. The blue light (disk slot) comes on and "glows" by itself. If you hit the Reset or Power buttons, the glow goes away - only to return maybe 1/2 hour later.
The Wii is internet connected, so I thought that maybe it was updating itself online - but this happens too often to say that is the case.
Anyone out there experience a similar issue? It's no big deal, but just was wondering why it was doing this.

That's normal behaviour for the Wii. Not sure of all the triggers, but new messages, or updates are indicated by the blue light you see. I think there is a way to turn that "notification" off, but I can't remember how. Anyways, not to worry, perfectly normal.

Mine does the same thing. The lights on the disc slot seem to be on 1/2 the time even though the Wii has been turned off.

Check out page 60 of your "Wii Settings and Data management" manual (also available on the Nintendo site here (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/downloads/WiiChEng.pdf)).
The Wii is never off; it simply shuts down into standby mode. In standby mode is still communicates over your network to check for updates, get weather and news, and receive messages (from other Wii owners or from Nintendo). Page 60 talks about the WiiConnect24 settings, specifically whether it's on or off, and slot illumination settings.
Do your kids have Mario Galaxy? I've noticed that I'm getting quite a few Wii messages from Mail Toad. Yes, the character in the game send me messages telling me to hurry up and save Luigi! So often my Wii slot is blinking at me after playing the game.

Mine too. Starts glowing almost immediately after turning it off. So I've put the Wii on a power bar and just flip the switch on the power bar whenever we're not using the Wii.

You should disable the Wii 24 option. It is known to cause overheating and damage the Wii.
Like Dioneo said disable the WiiConnect24 for the setup menu. Mine started doing this after a firmware update and disabling the WiiConnect24 stopped this.

Please do not cry wolf. This is a very rare occurance--NOT a done deal. I've had no problems with Wii Connect24 at all. Here's some info from the top 3 Google search results:
1. "Now I wouldn’t freak out about it too much. Cause there are millions of other Wii owners who still have their Wii Connect 24 on and have no issues. And the last faulty report from Nintendo is that only less than 2% of Wii have been actually found to have issues." (http://www.thewiieffect.com/2007/10/07/wii-connect-24-overheatin/)
2. Some websites are also saying that there was a bad group of the Hollywood chips shipped out by ATI, so if this is true, it’s most likely your Wii will be just fine and mine happened to have a bad chip to start out with. The Wii doesn't overheat. If it DOES overheat it means you have a defective Wii.
I have had mine since launch (American) and no problems whatsoever.
If yours has a heat problem don't shut off it's connection, don't waste money on a fan, just go get it replaced from Nintendo. (http://www.gamespot.com/forums/show_msgs.php?board_id=909104101&topic_id=25745618)
