As a format for the masses I would have to give DTS a 10 out of 10 rating for quality entertainment value.

I am talking specifically about 5.1 music delivery. Yes I am sure that the 'Advanced Resolution' tracks on DVD-A & SACD are even more spectacular, but (to me) they are not yet 'user friendly': players, D/A converters, connectivity, format wars, title selection etc.

For those of us with DTS hardware (I think the norm now combined with DD on receivers), 5.1 music discs (DVD-V and DVD-A) are just so enjoyable due to their DTS audio tracks. Three I have; Police - Singles, Queen - Greatest Video (I play them with the video off), and I have 1 DVD-A (DTS) A Night At The Opera.

The 5.1 mixes are "refreshing". A nice bonus for our HT setups...

Can anyone recommend a well recorded and mixed DTS light classical music release ? DVD-V or DVD-A.

Just purchased the Moody Blues Hall of Fame DVD that has a DTS5.0 sound track..

What is 5.0? Is is missing a discrete bass sound track...

And if so, do I need to switch my amp to send base to my main speakers instead of the Sub to get good bass output??

DD5.0 indeed has no LFE signal.

Your amp should still send "bass" signals from the various channels to the Sub. Depends on how you have it configured ("large" speakers or "small" speakers or "both" (to speakers and sub), cutoff frequency, etc.)

If you have your sub set up to get bass frequencies from "stereo" music, then whatever bass is present in DD2.0 or DD5.0 will get sent there too.

Read the operating manual that came with your receiver/amp on how to set it up properly for various applications.
