: Rogers Guide needs to change
James 2003-09-12, 11:16 AM I love the speed of the Rogers guide but they really need to "spoof" it up, anyone know if they have any plans to update the guide look?
also - they should really give users the ability to remove channels they are not subscribing to...what a pain to view all the channels in the guide.
just my 2 cents
Don't think they'll allow you to remove channels from the guide. They want you to see what you're missing by not subscribing to the other channels.
It's great when you find a show you haven't seen in ages and you don't have it in your current lineup.

unfortunately your correct on both counts
...that's one major plus about the SC guide - you can remove unsub channels, love having different channel colours for different programs (sports, movies, regular) and IMO it looks very clean.
digitalcable 2003-09-12, 11:52 AM Rogers IPG is still way faster than Expressvu or Starchoice for navigation. It does need some improvement, but thats all a function of the Software/Firmware that can be changed. I guess its up to the manufacturer. What I hate about the Explorer IPG is the inability to jump ahead in the Guide without the channel changing. You have to hold the down or up arrow to get where you want without changing channels.

Agreed!
I also wish the non-subscribed channels were in a different colour, at least. I think they're red on ExpressVu, for example.

so you can't remove unsubbed channels from the guide with expressvu?
daveharr 2003-09-12, 12:06 PM so you can't remove unsubbed channels from the guide with expressvu?
Yes, you can by pushing the Guide button until you are on the All Subbed list. Also, you can create customized favourites lists which only include the channels you want - great for getting rid of PPV or foreign language channels you have no interest in.
Joxer 2003-09-12, 02:47 PM I've used both guides extensively and BEV wins by a mile, at least on my BEV5100 vs. SA3200HD. The biggest pain is that you can't remove channels you can't watch, but in general it just has a real clunky feel to it and the channels are splayed about haphazardly - largely the fault of coexisting with analog gorp. They should allow at a minimum user lists, and due to the channel arrangement being so poor they should one up BEV and allow you to arrange the order of the channels in the guide. I also hate that the up/down order of channels in the guide works in reverse order to the channel up down and you can't change that (another minimum requirement to fix). I fixed that somewhat by shifting to a universal remote which uses the same buttons to move or page up/down regardless of the box it's controlling. Oh, and the PIP quality appears better in BEV to my eye. I'm trying to sort through the maze of packages on Rogers to get some kind of feel for what it would cost to get to the same level I have on BEV, and the compare that with the costs of adding HD service to my BEV - and waiting for more firm announcements on the PVR front from both companies before I make my final commitment to oneor the other. Unfortunately I feel like Rogers may win although their analog channels have always had poor quality for me and they seem to be a way off of replicating them in a more sensible arrangement in the digital arena.
Khorn 2003-09-12, 03:23 PM The search function on the guide is really really BAD. You should be able to direct input alpha numerically and not have to change days when searching for times a certain program is on. If you do a query for a title all days/ times/channels that the program is on, for the period programmed into the guide, should be displayed. As it is now you have to change day by day and then scroll down the letter you are searching all over again for each day. This is the most ignorant search function I have ever seen, It should be changed to keep up with modern times. An HD search would also be welcome.

Actually, Rogers can set the guide that when you enter a channel number in the guide, it just goes to that channel instead of tuning it. I don't know why they don't. I believe Vidéotron is like this.
WayneH 2003-09-13, 03:00 PM When you want to read about a movie for instance, you only get 2-3 lines. You should be able to page down and read the full brief.
You can direct access the channel with channel number, hit "Guide", then go the the programme and hit Info. You'll get the full blurb.
