I was just on the Toshiba Canada website looking for warranty information when I ran across this.

To ensure the satisfaction of our customers and to maintain the integrity and quality of our products, Toshiba of Canada Ltd.. (“TCL”) is posting this notice about the 46LX177 LCD TV. This is not a safety issue.

TCL recently discovered that a small, isolated lot of panels which was incorporated into its 46LX177 LCD TV have a slight imperfection in its performance which generally is not observable under the default picture settings. However, if you changed the default picture setting, specifically, setting the back light setting to the lowest level, you might be able to observe a horizontal bar scrolling down through the screen. This phenomenon is visible if you are looking at a light-colored background. Nevertheless, if the 46LX177 that you purchased has one of these panels, TCL would like to exchange your television with a replacement, free of charge.

To determine if your 46LX177 is one of the few units containing this panel, you will need the model and serial number of your unit.

To determine the model and serial number of your television:

* Please check your sales receipt.
* Look on the back of the unit for the TV Label.
* Please check your owner’s manual to see if you recorded the model number.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but I did a search and couldn't find anything. It says that the page was last updated on Jan. 22, 2008.

See Toshiba 42LX177 (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=77733) thread where it looks like a member had there set replaced for a similar reason a few months ago.

Interesting to know if what the member called banding is actually what toshiba calls "a horizontal bar scrolling down through the screen"?

I saw that thread, but according to Toshiba, the problem only relates to the 46" and the thread is about the 42".

I know they are different sets but sometimes we find out later that what was thought to be one set can sometimes extend to others.

Was this set a FS only set and did you have your replaced?

Oh no, I don't have this tv, I don't even have a regular TV let alone an LCD. I was on the Toshiba site to see about extended warranties for their TV's. I'm moving to a condo with Rogers cable so I figured I'd buy a tv and now the search is on for a 40" LCD. I'm really interested in the new line of Toshiba's that are coming out. I'm thinking about the Toshiba Cinema Regza 40XF550 Super Thin Bezel tv. It's supposed to be out in February, just in time for my move.
