Hi, just read through this thread and didn't find what I was looking for so I ask;
I just purchased a 9242 and had Bell install it. It came with an SW44 switch from Videopath. Everything is working fine. I would now like to add a 3100 receiver which I already have but want to check first before I connect any coax.
One side of the switch has the 4 feeds from the LNBs connected. The other side has 2 coax connected. One carrys the power back to the switch and the other carries the signal to the 9242.
Since the 3100 will only receive standard signal, I only need to get the signal from one satellite(91?). How can I tell which of the 2 vacant ports on the switch to connect the 3100?
Pretty basic but don't want to screw it up.

plug it in to either port, won't matter. run checkswitch on the 3100, it will identify the switch and work just fine.

As Tom says, either port will be just fine.

Actually you will find that you were 50% correct. Yes 1 lines carries power to feed the SW44 but BOTH lines feed into the 9242 giving you a real Dual Tuner HD PVR. Ok, so it really has 3 Tuners but I don't want to confuse you any more just yet.....lol

The switch is an intelligent device. It uses messages/signals from the receiver to send the correct signal on EACH output port. Just connect your 3100 to the next free port, do the check switch (in the test menu, 6,1,3 I think) and then you should be good to go (of course it won't work properly until Bell authorizes it... but I assume you knew that.)

If bell does the Sw44 switch setup for my second 9242, the one downstairs currently has two cables run in, using a sw44 for 9242, will I loose the ability to pvr something and watch a different channel? I would have two 9242 feeding a single tv.

One 9242 for tv downstairs, one 9242 for tv upstairs.

one sw44 will run 2 9242's prefectly.

Hi all.
I purchased a 9242 yesterday.
I already had expressvu, so I thought bringing the receiver home, installing it, and watching HDtv on my new tv would be easy. Generally, it was, and I am watching tv in high def as we speak, but I don't have all the functionality of the pvr, so here are a few questions for all you good people.
First, my setup.
Bell dish, with dual LNB's, both of which hook into a sw21 switch. One feed going to my Master Bedroom, one feed going to the 9242 in the Living room.
As you can see, this means I only have one feed going to the Pvr, so, no PiP, no recording one program while watching another, etc. etc.
My question.
How do I get two feeds into the 9242 using this setup. Is it a sw44 switch that I need?
I've seen some example diagrams with a "power inverter" used. Could someone tell me what this is for?
Basically, what I'm asking is, how do I get 2 signals into my PVr with my existing setup.

The most common way would be to install a sw44 behind the dish, and run a second line to your 9242. There are a few other methods discussed in the Bell install forum. I think you may have heard about a power inserter, not an inverter. This is a tiny box, plugged into an outlet, that feeds additional power to the sw44.
You should have received a sw44 with your new 9242, if not, I would ask the store where it is....

Post number 3 will show you exactly what you need to do. You will need to install a SW44 as shown.

Is the power plug for the sw44 included when you buy one?
Is it needed for the sw44 to function? Why does it need the extra power, does it boost the signal?
It wasn't included in the box with the 9242. I did write bell this morning asking why they don't include one. Hopefully I'll get a good response from them.

You are entitled to an SW44 for free when getting the 9242.

I would sugest calling the location where you got the 9242 and telling them that you need the SW44, they should then supply you one.

The power plug and inserter are included with the sw44
The sw44 DOES require power, but the power doesn't boost the signal.
I would recommend going in to the store you bought it from too.

I bought the receiver from future shop.
Hopefully they will go good on the sw44.

The Bell switch is - labelled 63879 - 3 Input 4 Output Multi-Switch 40-2200 MHz. In has LNB 17/18 V + LNB A 13/14 V inputs.

That is a 3x4. 2 sat inputs, one antenna input and a power port. That will not work for HD.

What's this used for then?? Can I hook up 1x 3100 and 2x 4100 with this switch? What's it called? SW what?

I have one dish with 2 LNB (91 & 82) and a SW21, and 2 receiver (one hooked up to the sw21, the other to 1 LNB) hooked up, and I want to add another receiver, will this switch work??

It is called a powered SW34 switch or power multiswitch with Ant. input.

I would read through this thread (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=79112) on how to hook up what you want.

Basically you need to hook up the SW21 switch after the SW34 switch.

If i have 2 dual LNB wich feed into 2 seperate SW21 switches of course 82 in one and 91 in the other. Wich will feed directly from there to my 9242receiver. Or do i need the power inserter type?

two sw21's work just fine for one 9242.
