: SW44 switch discussion
foddmxz600 2010-10-31, 12:28 AM I am running a sw44 switch with 2 receivers and the receiver plugged into 1 with power adapter will not clear the check switch but the other one will. when I bring the inverter to the other receiver it will not clear the check switch but now the the other one will. I always keep the power adapter to line 1. checked all 4 lines from the lnb's direct and got good signal from all.
also ran check switch on receiver's with no input's to clear them.
Any help would be appreciated before I start replacing parts
thank you in advance.
Pinza 2010-10-31, 07:09 AM Is it possible to use the Power inserter onto Port #1 and the receivers on Ports #2 & #3.?
You do not say what model receivers you are using.
Also check the jumper, from Power Inserter to Input, for strands of braiding inside the connector.
foddmxz600 2010-11-01, 10:55 AM im sure the lnb's to the sw44 switch isn't a big deal but the power inserter from the sw44 may be required within a certain distance I was wondering how far I can go with it before i run into switch errors.
Pinza 2010-11-01, 12:19 PM There is no reason to place it behind the receiver, I just do that for ease of servicing etc after installation.
How far away is the Power Inserter.?
Do you have a coax line passing Hydro before that.? If you do, just cut the power Inserter in at that point and swing that coax onto Port #1 of the SW44.
foddmxz600 2010-11-01, 01:59 PM I just tried that thinking my inserter wasnt getting the power to the switch, but still not the fix.
I have a 6131 & 4100 hooked the inserter to the 6131 connected to port 1 ran check switch and came back not found but 4100 came back all good took power inserter to 4100 and put him into port 1 and 6131 in port 2 now 6131 works and 4100 doesnt.
checked inserter with meter got correct voltage
swapped all lnb inputs around still the same thing
also ran the check switch with nothing plugged in to clear
foddmxz600 2010-11-01, 02:04 PM also ran the inserter to port 1 with no lead going to receiver and the other 2 on 2&3 and the 4100 still wont find switch.
Does this sound like my switch or evan a bad lnb
dirtroad 2010-11-01, 03:09 PM It sounds like switch and power inserter are working, I would look at cable between 4100 and switch, a bent, too short/long center lead or loose/frayed shield wires?
foddmxz600 2010-11-01, 04:10 PM I swapped that cable out already. As for the rest of the cables I double checked them all and they all look good
dirtroad 2010-11-02, 03:51 PM I can't imagine what is happening with this, I don't think it is the Lnb's because the SW44 assigns both side of lnb as left/right polarity, and if the 6131 gets all the channels it should, the switch and Lnb's are all working.
And the fact the ability to see the switch moves around from receiver to receiver, they both appear to be working. I think that maybe port # 2 may be the problem, have you tried using 3 and 4, with port 1 just for the power inserter?
foddmxz600 2010-11-02, 11:33 PM Port number 2 is what I have the 6131 on now and it's working fine. I believe it's port 1 with the power inserter on it not letting it do it's thing. I will try the power insert alone in port 1 not running to a receiver and use 3 & 4 to see what happens
Pinza 2010-11-03, 07:24 AM There have been lots of problems over the years with the actual Inserter, so using it just for Power might be fine until you need that 4th output.
foddmxz600 2010-11-03, 11:48 AM 1. Connected power inserter to port 1 of sw44
2. 6131 to port 3
3. 4100 to port 4
All works good.
So with all this said and done still dont know if port is bad on sw44 or power inserter is not letting signal to receiver.
In the future I guess I will replace them both since they come together.
Pinza 2010-11-03, 03:53 PM If you only have those two receivers, you could just use a pair of SW21's.
foddmxz600 2010-11-03, 03:57 PM well it would be easier but the goal was to have it ready for another receiver and possibly a dual tuner
Pinza 2010-11-03, 04:13 PM Yep, I hear you.
dirtroad 2010-11-03, 04:17 PM Right now you can still add one more receiver on port #2.
I always want to now why things don't work, and it is usually because I took something apart that was working!
Take a look at the input of the inserter, I wonder if something has come loose or a bad solder.
Pinza 2010-11-03, 04:40 PM There was a huge batch of Inserters that would block even transponders, it turned out they had all gone through the exact same QC person while being refurbished. I cannot remember what the small blue sticker said now, or it might have just been the fact the sticker was blue.
I am told 99% of all SW44's are now refurbished.

What I would suggest doing in the future is adding a 3x4 switch on the Lnb for 91, feed your 4100 with one lead from the 3x4, and feed your 6131, and future dual tuner off the SW44 with only 3 outputs working which would give you signal for 2 sd rcvrs and 3 hd rcvrs. Then if at any point you want to expand further you are half way there, just add a second 3x4 and a second SW44. Which would give you signal for 7 receivers. Why replace the SW44, and I have seen 3x4 for as little a $9.00 new, cheaper than buying two SW21's.
Pinza 2010-11-04, 04:23 PM That option is fine unless the person subscribes to any of the SD International Channels on 82.
jboyle 2010-11-14, 03:33 PM I can get 88% on on sat 82 but can't find sat 91. Even when I atach the LMB to the Y joint 91 (left side) I an pick up 82 but not 91 anyone got any ideas
I' m using Owen Sound Ontario settings
Compass 197.6
elevaion 37.8
Scew 95.4
