My wife accidentially unplugged the inline power inserter and now after plugging it back in and doing mutiple check switch and a hard reboot with the bell tech over the phone they say it is either the switch or the inserter that has messed up. So i have ordered one off of ebay for 47 bucks and it should be here in a few days. Is the bell guy wrong or am I on the right track. Could unplugging it have shorted it out. There is no moisture in our crawl space. Oh i should mention I have the 9241 receiver. thanks in advance for any help.

Just unplugging and restoring power should not cause failure.

If the 9241 is your only receiver, you could have opted for 2 x SW21's or a DPP LNBF, neither option require any king of additional Power.

Maybe I should clarify. It got unplugged at the inserter and the part of the power cord that goes into the inserter was touching the floor still powered. My new inserter and switch should be here in a couple days. If that doesnt work I may try the two sw21 as I have one still from the old non-hd receiver that i dont use anymore. thanks for the heads up. I dont get a signal strength on either satelitte and it doesnt even recognize 91 wierd.

Just having the power cord touch the floor should not affect it at all, unless the floor had 2" of water on it.....lol

Do you have a small volt meter to test for power at that connector.?

To provide TV, while waiting for the new switch, you could use a pair of barrel connectors (F81's) and connect the 2 lines from 91 directly with the Receiver, these should be on Ports#1 & 2 of the SW44, of course the Power inserter will not be required.

This will give you the main SD Channels for the time being.

Check the center lead, I have seen people who don't understand the concept of co-ax, bend the center lead over so it makes better contact! (or could have got bent in the fall!)

Guess I should have done some searching first!
Just had a Bell tech run a fourth line into the house (82) and ugrade my switch to an sw44. LNB's are legacy. I Had to run, so after he finished, he put the invoice in the mailbox. The bill states $150.00 for the sw44!!! Is this flippin right?!? I see them online for $50.

They usually charge $75 per line so they put 2 lines in. Did they charge you $150 more on top of the line install?

They only ran in 1 new line at $75. Then showed $150.00 for the switch on the invoice! Total of $252.75 including taxes!!!

Sadly that is correct, $75 for the Service Call (Includes running 1 line) plus the SW44 @ $150.

You live and learn.......

Currently waiting to hear back from them.
I told them they were crazy charging that much. Also told them that they can come back and get it. Had they told me that I may need one (sw44)when I explained what I wanted, I would have just paid them to run the new line, and purchased the switch myself.
just have to wait and see what they do.

If you didn't have HD before, they (Bell) will throw in a free SW44, but in my case because my 6100 came with a SW21 it was up to me to cough up for the SW44's for my 6 rcvr's.
I was able to get one through the dealer where I bought my 9242 for $49.00.
I believe you are eligible for up to 2 upgrades or deals per year.

If the switch is outside it could have been simply condensation that killed the port. Static discharge can fry switches too. Heck ive killed a computer motherboard from a static shock.

Sent you a pm too

I'm not under a contract (just expired last month) so I'm guessing no upgrades for me!

If this is your FIRST Upgrade, and you have now JUST subscribed to HD programming, or International Programming, you should get this done for free. If not, then $225 is correct.

That would be for Bell to decide, but it is for Moving, retention deals http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=48593 , hardware upgrades.
If your contract is up, now is the time to call to see what they will offer you to stay a costumer! I meant CUSTOMER!, I have October 31st on my mind I guess! (see link above.)

Not sure if I can wave the "I'm leaving flag" at them, as I'm definitely not going to Rogers (long story), and I'm not sure what options I have in going to another provider. I haven't researched any other companies, and don't think FTA is going to get me much.

I see nowhere that wopman says he has just moved, so the FREE Moving Promo is out.

As yet, we do not know if he has just added HD or International programming.

I cannot believe wopman never asked "how much" before asking bell to carry out the work, after it is done it is too late.

Now it is up to Bell to waive your charges, which I do not believe they should. Good Luck anyway.

DO NOT shout too much yet, wait until you get the Bill. That Work Order NEVER goes to Bell, the copies the Tech took with him, stay with the Contractor, unless you call Bell and dispute it, then they ask the Contractor for a copy.

Thanks for the input folks.

Definitely not.

As yet, we do not know if he has just added HD or International programming.

Just added another 82 feed, so I could get 2 lines to my 9242 and possibly upgrade other SD recievers to HD.

I cannot believe wopman never asked "how much" before asking bell to carry out the work, after it is done it is too late.

I did to the CSR when I setup the appointment, and I repeated "are you sure that it will only cost $75 for the new line?" Guess I was naive in thinking they would throw in the sw44.

Anyway, didn't mean to get this into a Bell service discussion.

Thanks.

Thanks fo rthe clarification wopman.

Well with the added info, the Bell CSR should have informed you of ALL the charges, not just the charge for the extra line, although if fairness, if the 9242 had been on your account, it is almost certain that they would assume you already had the SW44 switch, as that has been installed by Bell as a default for quite some time.

I would sit tight, until you get your bill, then call and tell them of the conversation with the CSR and the fact you never 'authorized' the Tech to go ahead with a $150 switch installation.... Might work.

Will do. Thanks.
