: SW44 switch discussion
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 11:43 AM If you hit the Check Switch button on the Point Dish screen, you get the Installation Summary screen.
And that screen seems to indicate that all is well. It shows a green OK under both Satellite input 1 and Input 2 boxes in the Transponder row and shows "Reception Verified" in the Status row.
Costa 2010-06-22, 12:24 PM Don't forget to SAVE the NEW results.
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 12:36 PM When I run the 38 test sequence I get an 836 error MSG that says that saving will cause a LOSS of channels. So I just cancel out rather than do a save.
dirtroad 2010-06-22, 02:16 PM It sounds like a glitch in the system! Have you ever done a check switch and saved the results since the original install? Many of Bell's receivers came with software that would allow them to download Dishnet firmware. I always do a check switch when I setup a new receiver or move one from one location to another. If you haven't done a check switch it may be looking for the multiple satellites that Dishnet has.
If you still have a problem have Bell re-authorize your system, if after an hour you still can't get all your channels, ask Bell to de-authorize your programming then re-authorize the system and this should clear it up.
It is hard to believe the number of receivers I come accross that show XX on both 91 and 82 that work, but with issues!
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 02:35 PM Please re-read my posts. I have done Check Switch and it shows "OK" not XX for the satellites. And I get a warning message that SAVE will give me fewer channels when I run Test.
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 02:37 PM Please re-read my posts. I have done Check Switch and it shows "OK" not XX for the satellites. And I get a warning message that SAVE will give me fewer channels when I run Test.
This install is over 4 years old and nothing has changed. I just can't get sat91 channels anymore.
dirtroad 2010-06-22, 03:03 PM When you "View" check switch does it say OK or XX. If it is okay, then calling Bell for re-authorization is you next step. I did read your post before I commented. If you can get 91 and 82 with the signal strength meter, then the switch and LNB's appear to be working. The fact you won't save the results of the completed check switch may be the problem, it may have mapped the system incorrectly. You are already missing channels, so what channels are you going to lose. Bell's authorization say what channels you can get, not your switch.
I have done and suggested what I can, it is up to decide what you want to do!
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 04:16 PM It says that 82 and 91 are okay (this is the green OK), but there is no signal strength for sat91. Sat82 is fine at 90+.
I will get Bell to un/re-authorize now and post the result.
Bell tech says that it sounds like the switch but warns that the aftermarket ones are cheaply made when I complained about about the price. Anyone have any good experience buying one in the Toronto area?
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 05:22 PM Nope. Problem still exists. Will monitor forum for another day or two........
Costa 2010-06-22, 05:50 PM You're not going to gain the channels that you're already missing by not saving the results. Saving the results will help determine the issue at hand.
Do the test, and save the results. Post them here. If it detects the SW44 and signal 82 properly, than you know you either have a signal or lnb issue off 91.
Pinza 2010-06-22, 07:13 PM Is there any possibility that the Power Inserter has become disconnected.?
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 07:48 PM Okay, I saved the results on screen 863 and got a warning screen that I will now have fewer satellites (as I thought).
So now the Installation Summary screen shows X's for port 1 for both Input 1 and 2. This is where sat91 was before.
Now I am missing channels on the program guide between 324 and 800.
Now what??
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 07:53 PM No, I checked it again just now and it is still plugged in. When I unplugged it, I lost the signal and then it came back web I replugged in the power to the device.
Any ideas when reading all my posts? I still think that it is sw44.
Pinza 2010-06-22, 07:55 PM Try swapping over the inputs on the SW44, 1A & 1B with 2A & 2B, then run the 'Check Switch' again, see if the 'X' moves to the other side. If it does, then suspect LNBF/Cables/Connectors now attached to 2A & 2B. If it stays on 1A & 1B, it could be the SW44/Power Supply/Power Inserter.
Have you tried this yet from post #356;
Is there any way to connect the cables from the 91 LNB directly to you receiver?
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 08:07 PM I don't know how to hook up the two. I guess I could use a male coax coupler. I'll see if it fits.
I'll also try to swap the cables at the sw44. Back in 10.
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 08:25 PM I hooked up the wire from the dish that went to 1A directly to the wire going from the switch into the house, and nothing changed in thecway of reception.
My Installation Summary Details screen now says that ports 1a odd and 1b even are missing for Satellite input 1 and 2.
Next test is to switch the 1's and 2's. Back in another 10.
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 08:46 PM Swapped the cables and now have no signal. The X's didn't move either.
I have the green OK for sat82 but it has gone missing too with no signal strength for it and 91.
Will reverse cables back as it is getting dark I and want some signal to watch.
Any advice?
Pinza 2010-06-22, 09:06 PM I have the green OK for sat82 but it has gone missing too with no signal strength for it and 91.
Which screen(s) are you in for this.?
Menu 6, 1, 1 will give you Signal Strength, on this screen you can select Tuner 1 or 2, 82 or 91 and an Odd or Even Transponder.
That should at least let you work out what is missing.
DUHCAR 2010-06-22, 09:10 PM Got sat82 back but still X's for the missing 91.
Thoughts? as I am at a loss for the next step.
John
Pinza 2010-06-22, 09:11 PM What about swapping over the LNBF's.? That should tell you if it is a bad one.
