: SW44 switch discussion
My 4100 works (tried it on another port)... so my prob seems to be Port #1 on the SW44 switch itself... OR... the short RG6 cable from the PI to the SW44. Seems unlikely though, as it worked fine all these years, and was never touched.
Pinza 2010-01-19, 05:28 PM The small female couplers are called F81's, try to get the ones with a blue centre core, they tend to be able to pass at least 2 Ghz, which is what you want.
I have had dozens of Power Inserters fail but when they do, it tends to loose Even Transponders. You appear to have covered everything else, so I think you are left with the SW44 itself.
For the F81's, just buy a Bell guy or Rogers Tech a Coffee, they will do you a swap for 6 F81's. I know I would.....lol
ScaryBob 2010-01-19, 07:06 PM I think eventually I want to try this new dual LNB for 91/82 with the switch built-in that I have had for a while
That's probably a Dish Pro twin LNB. It's not to be confused with a dual LNB which receives one satellite and has two outputs.
It says Dish Pro on it (with black lettering on front), and it has 4 outputs. AK74-S is the part no. on it.
Are they more reliable than the SW-44?
Also, would I need to use a grounding block/coupler with the AK74-S for each line?
EDIT: I found this pic... (http://173.201.24.200/images/misc/SKY02305.jpg)
Pinza 2010-01-23, 09:15 AM That picture appears to be nothing more than a 4 port Grounding Block.
Yeah? That is what I would need though once I disconnect my SW44 and use the Quad DP LNB... b/c in the basement I would need to re-connect the cables to the receivers, and female couplers would be needed.
Costa 2010-01-23, 05:17 PM In that case, you might as well ground the cables lol.
Pinza 2010-01-24, 09:44 AM Just ground the SW44.
TaGY2K 2010-01-29, 01:53 PM For the SW44 do you install it outside or inside?
For the SW44 do you install it outside or inside?
Either way, I like it inside if possible, away from the outside elements.
Pinza 2010-01-29, 05:25 PM If you are running 4 lines from the SW44, I would say Inside for sure. Only 2 lines, then Outdoors.
The day before yesterday all the high channels 800 and above on bell are gone
in one receiver the other in another room is O.K. I got two lines coming in from the SW44 line 1 were the power goes up and line 2 line 2 it's O.K. bur line 1 I can only get few channels on the 91 I've tried every thing like unplug the power to it couple times I even switched receivers same thing. I live on a small apartment building and the roof were the dish and the SW44 it is it's very high
I would have to rent a step leader to get there to replace it and now it's to cold to go there.
Any ideas guys!!
One thing when I did a check switch on my receiver it came back with this: Missing Port 1b SAT 91 even
Pinza 2010-01-30, 01:02 PM Sounds like a Connector or Cable problem.
Now you know why I do not like putting an SW44 on a Roof or at the Dish.....
I can't believe it stared to work again by it self
I wonder if very low temperature it's got something to do with it
It's been minus 20 here and today it's only minus 3
I can't think of any thing also, Ho well I hope it's going to stay like this
niftyg 2010-02-15, 02:29 AM Is my SW44 dead?
I just received all my stuff from bell to install my dish
I aimed the dish with cables straight from the lnb's one at a time with an 80% signal on 91 and 82.
It prettymuch worked off and on playing around with the switch, then it just stopped completley. I just went over ALL of the wiring and it's like it's not even plugged into anything.
Is my sw44 dead?
I have the power inserter going into port1, tried the other ports, no difference. Switched a and b around etc.
scooter62 2010-02-22, 04:39 PM My current setup is using 2 x sw21; it is working fine.
Trying to replace my sw21s with a sw44; when I hook up the one receiver and do a check switch, it says no switch found; my silly questions:
1. Do you have to have the 4 inputs connected to the sw44, in order for the switch to be recognized ?
(Just want to see if the setup sees the switch)
2. Does the receiver have to be connected to port #1 (I know the power inserter does)
Thanks.

Yes.

No

davidm16 2010-03-31, 01:36 PM Had this setup installed for about 2 years now. SW 44 switch is in basement, then runs to 3 receivers throughout the house.
About a week ago a few (non-HD)channels would not come in (on all 3 receivers) with the error message about the satellite signal not being available. After some time with checking signal strengths, 91 is showing strong (77-90 %) on even transponders and low (under 50%) or 0% on odd transponders.
I have done the soft reboot and also completely disconnected the power from the reciever and the power supply to the SW44. Reconnected everything still same problem.
My guess is the SW44 has failed. Interestingly last night I went down to the basement to verify the connections were all ok and tight, and when I disconnected one of the lines coming from the satellite some water dripped out of the cable from around the copper wire. Can't imagine how it got inside the cable, but I will check the lines from dish down, looking for breaks.
Just looking for confirmation that only solution is to replace SW 44.
thanks

It is also possible the power inserter is damaged, they fail more often for me than the SW44s. I know they can fail with water contact.
Can you take your switch and inserter to someone else you know who has Bell TV? If so, try to swap out each part seperately (SW44 & the power inserter) and you will then know which one is bad or if both are bad.
