I was reading about how you can split the 4 cables from the 2 LNBs on the dish to hook up 2 SW44s.

But when I search for 2ghz splitters a bunch come up at thesourcecc or here:
http://www.kusat.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=14_52

but they say they aren't to be used with the signal coming out of the LNBF.

What exactly do I need and where can I find them (preferable in vancouver). What type of 2ghz splitters must I avoid? What should the price be? Around $5 like at kusat, or $20 for the gold ones at thesourcecc?

I've also wondered if you could take 2 SW38s (they seem to be $13 each @mxmart) and hook the outputs up to 2 SW44's ? Would this give 8 outputs from the 2 SW44's, and 4 available with only sat1 (on the 1st Sw38) and 4 avail only with sat2? Would that work?

thanks

The SW38's would work just fine, however you can also go for 2 x SW34's, then you will end up with just the 8 outputs from the 2 x SW44's.

With using SW38's you can build a network with a total of 16 outputs, each with 91 & 82 (2 x SW38 & 4 x SW44), I have used this in the past for a huge mansion where they have 2 seperate Express Vu accounts and a total of 12 receivers.

The 2Ghz splitters need to be ALL ports power passing, thats all.

You will want 2ghz power passing splitters (The lnb's need voltage sent to them)
Or you could use (2) 2x4 multi switches, one for 82, one for 91, and then you have (4) 82's and (4) 91's that can power your sw44
I use the multiswitch method, but have seen the 2ghz setup work before too

The splitter do work but the use of multiswitch's gives a more balanced network in my opinion, plus a multiswitch seems to cobetter than the cheap little Splitters.

Note, that in the early days, Express Vu shipped the wrong splitters to installers, which was when we decided to use multiswitch's in the forst place. Overall, when splitters are used we used to get failures within a matter of 3 months, with multiswitch's they seem to just carry on working.....

Thanks. I just don't find 2Ghz splitters that say "power passing" at kusat or thesourcecc or anywhere really (well, except 1 or 2 online places in the states) so I don't know how much they would cost here in van.

The SW34 is $12, and SW38 is $13 (mxmart.com), so I thought more ports would better future proof things in that setup for only $2 more..

The lines on the face of the Splitter are what are used to denote the Power Passing Ports.

This one is the "Gold Plated" version from The Source, it would work just fine......

$30 each! And i would need 4? ouch

You would need 4. I'm sure if you searched ebay you could find "all ports power pass" splitters for a few bucks each.

I was using that image as a reference........

I would always go for the SW34 option myself.

Why not the SW38? Seems like a better deal than 34 to me.

Anyway, I guess the lines on the diagram just have to be unbroken/continuous? I found these for less (assuming they are OK for satellite), so I guess thesource is a big ripoff.

4 with shipping = $16 total

Those splitters are perfect. (Indoor use only, would be m suggestion)

I would not use the SW38's because it is overkill. You can only have 6 receivers on an account anyway.....

I just get a new HD receiver (6100) to add to my 3100, 4500 and 9200 ones. I currently have a sw44 feeding the four turners. The question is how best to add the new HD receiver, since I need a 5th cable with both 82 and 91 satellites? Will this work? I have ordered a sw34 switch. I will use it with the dual lnbs output from the 91 satellite. Use 2 of the outputs from the sw34 and the dual lnbs output from the 82 satellite to feed the sw44 switch. And use the remaining 2 outputs from the sw34 directly. This should get me 4 feeds with both 82 and 91 (from the sw44), and 2 feeds with just 91 (directly from the sw34). The older 3100 will be feed with the 91 only cable. Will this work?

At some point I will buy another sw34 switch and a pair of sw21 switches to have both satellites on the extra 2 cables. Of course, I could also get a second sw44, but I don’t need outputs for 8 receivers.

Is this a good method, or is there something else? Would be nice if they did a sw46 or sw48 multi-satellite switch?

Your suggestion will work just fine.

There are 4x8 and 4x6 Switch's out there but after testing several of them we were never happy with the performance, so we stick to the SW44's option.

Another option is an SW44a, this would replace the SW44 in place now and then the SW44 is fed from the SW44a, this option also works but again is not supported by Express Vu, officially.

The correct splitters pass power on one port only and block power on the other. That's what Dish specifies and supplies. If EV is saying different then they are wrong. The 2 port power passing splitters will work if they are wired just right and no equipment malfunctions occur. Otherwise you could end up with only half the transponders working or blown SW44s.

The correct splitter is part number HF2-1002C (Google will find it) and costs about $5. A Dish DP1002 should also work but costs more.

Well there you have it, more confusion.

Which port requires Power.?

Have fun.

It will absolutely save you time by using dishpro over legacy "PoS" lnbs & sw. Excuse me for the "PoS" comment :D, but legacy switches are obsolete. DP1000.2 dish is good for 3 birdies with built-in DP+ advantage. You can find dishpro for a bargain on Ebay.

Happy Hunting!

It doesn't matter since both ports receive power. Only one port needs to pass it to the LNB. Having both ports pass power ties the power outputs of the SW44s together. That may be Ok if both are 24v or 18v on all common ports. Get the 18v and 24v outputs crossed and I wish you luck getting anything to work. It might even burn out the switches. :o

Yup, now I'm more confused.

HF2-1002C

"This is not suitable to split the signal coming from an LNBF. It should only be used with a single polarity LNB or a stacked polarity LNBF."

You are correct DP will NOT run a 4500 wan adaptor but DPP will......
