I have a rogers 8300HD box. I want to push it into the basement, connecting to it via an HDMI cable and an IR cable.

Where is the best place to buy an IR cable from ? Do they come with Receivers / Emitters or do you buy them separately ?

What is the better brand to buy ?

Thanks.

Here's a thread on IR Repeaters - not sure if that's what you want.

Regarding HDMI, have you checked it out in the current position? There are lots of HDMI issues and there's no guarantee that it'll work. See:

I've not seen great results with those RF repeaters, at least the Radio Shack variety.

I cam across a unit that uses your existing coax wiring to transmit the signals. I haven't found any write ups though but the concept is interesting. This assumes you have a coax connection available at the TV and where you are putting the receiver.

In terms of the request. All that i want is an IR receiver and Transmitter and the able that connects them. I just don't know where to get them. I don't want to do this wirelessly. I don't want IR to RF conversion.

On the back of the 8300 box, there is an input for "IR". What plugs in to that ?

Thanks.

More than likely, it is an output for an IR blaster to control a VCR. Some Pace boxes have an IR input, AFAIK.

I guess so, but it makes me wonder how many people hook up their VCR's to their HD boxes
Logic would tell me that the same amount would want the setup you have lecoyte, so why not go high tech with extra ports, instead of low tech?

Sorry, what do you mean by extra ports ?

I think that I have found what I need. This has the description of "hidden ir system" on a site called "smarthome". This seems to be what I need.
