The "blue man" symbol in the program guide is used to designate whether or not a channel is selected as a favorite. If you have multiple favorites in your receiver, hitting the FAV button on your remote allows you switch between those particular channels. Rogers offers free previews of certain channels and packages but only for a limited period of time so you should call in and confirm when those free previews end if you don't want to pay for those channels later on.

 Help?

I have tired 2 different Rogers SA4250HD in my room. I noticed the IPG program Information of many channels (ch500+) disappear after 12:00AM (EST) mid-night?

Is this a software bug? is there a way to fix it? I have tried reset that terminal from Rogers website but it does not fix that problem.

I do not have that missing IPG program info. issue during rest of the day. This problem start ONLY after mid-night 12:00AM (EST).

I had a PACE rental box before, and I did not remeber see this issue.

Can someone suggest a solution to fix this please?

Thank you!

Perhaps you're part of the following issue:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=124352&highlight=IPG%2A See post 13

Since the 4250 stores info in RAM (or perhaps ROM), there may be an issue as the information is downloaded at midnight (the 8300 stores the IPG on the HDD)

Does anyone know how to program WD TV Media Player on Atlas 1055 Day PVR/DVR Remote from Rogers?

Is anyone else's guide locking up when programming in a show reminder. The show will show as highlighted but I can no longer move in the guide. The only alternative is to exit the guide.
This just started happening this past week. I have a 4250HD.

There have been some guide issues as discussed in other threads, but I haven't heard of this issue, although the firmware on this STB was recently updated. Have you performed a cold reboot to see if that solves the issue.

I have 2 SA4250s and both seemed to have changed its behavior as of a few weeks ago and I wonder if anyone has noticed the same. Perhaps Rogers has triggered a firmware update? In both cases, the STBs are connected to the TVs (LG and Sony LCDs) via HDMi.

For the last yr or so, I've enabled 720P and 1080i on both units and have been doing pass-through to the TVs and it's always been that 480P signals would get up-converted to 1080i but recently the SA4250 windows have been showing 480P even though it's not an active format as per the wizard set up. I also went through the motion of deleting and re-defining the 2 formats but 480P keeps showing up.

As I have seen the above in 2 STBs, I doubt if the boxes are defective.

Any ideas?

Did you perform a reboot of the STBs? Have you gone into the Settings - Set Picture Format and change that to Passthrough/Auto-DVI/HDMI? Change it to another option like Fixed and then back to passthrough.

Whenever there is new firmware revision (not necessarily new version, just minor revision), the settings often get changed to Fixed.

Hi, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the problem I am. Approximately 2 weeks ago my SA 4250HD went into what I can only describe as a rebooting loop. It clicks off- then a symbol -then something like flr -then a countdown -then Clr -then PrG -then boot -then off ....repeating over and over again...never stops.

I called in the first night and they said they that the problem was the result of a firmware update that had gone wrong and that many subscribers were affected and that they were working on the problem. Next day same thing and was advised by Rogers again that they were working on it. This went on until Saturday when I finally had enough and called insisting it was fixed immediately. They sent over a technician who replaced my box with what looks like a used 4250 and this worked untile Tuesday when the same problem started again.

Called Rogers and this time they said they would send a technician over on Saturday -5 days later. I found this unacceptable and asked for a manager. One was not available so they said they would have one call me in 2-4 hours. No one called until close to 48hrs later and unfortunately for me got my voicemail.

I am still yet to hear from anyone at Rogers and have sent them a nasty email since. My 4250 continues to reboot and I've been without tv for the better part of two weeks.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be wrong with my 4250 and what my best route would be to getting the compensation I believe I deserve from Rogers. In all, I given them between $400-450 a month (cable, internet, home phone and 2x wireless) and am absolutely dismayed with the lack of service I have received.

Thanks in advance for any help.

csks, it does appear a firmware was loaded. I too have the 4250 HD, and have documented and discussed many new features that I 've noticed in this new release.

One of them I forgot to mention, is the box will detect what resolutions your hdtv supports via the HDMI bus. I now find it useless to go into the HDTV setup wizard and select the resolutions. The good thing about this, is my TV says it does not supprot 480i over HDMI, it used to allow me to choose this before, even though it would display just fine, but I did not want to risk frying the TV or causing some kind of malfunction, but now the box does not let me choose 480i, it still lets me choose 480p and 480p wide. which is still pretty good.

Yes I did a cold reboot and changed the Picture Format between Fixed and Passthrough/Auto-DVI a few times but 480i (the previous ref to 480p is inaccurate) is still showing up on the SA4250 window. It just doesn't make sense that it's displaying a format that is not supposed to be active; unless the STB is now displaying the format of the incoming signal rather than the outgoing signal.

If anyone can try just enabling 720p and 1080i on their SA4250; specify passthrough and then go from 545 (CNNHD - 1080i) to Channel 192 (CP24) or 007 (City News) in the GTA, and let me know the resolution as displayed by the STB I'd appreciate it.

Paolo, I only noticed your reply after my last posting. Interesting information, though for my LG, all the resolution modes are still available (but this may only mean that it does support all modes).

Just curious but is the HDMI-CEC function enabled on your TV?

nottoobright, I'd call retention and threaten to leave if it were up to me, I am sure they would offer some sort of discount remedy for 12 months... I'd also insist they upgrade me to the 8300HD for free since the 4250 is 'obviously unreliable'...

unless the STB is now displaying the format of the incoming signal rather than the outgoing signal. What's the make/model of your TV? Most TVs have an "info/recall/enter/similar" button on the TV remote which shows the incoming signal. I'm glad you saw Paolo's post. The 480i makes a lot more sense than the 480P you previously mentioned...

I had some minor problems with one of mine, after an update a couple of weeks back. My other one was OK.

It's Enabled, because my Blue-Ray player can auto sense to use 1080p with my TV.

Why don't you just keep your STB on Fixed, set it to 1080i and enjoy your TV viewing? you can change the resolution in the quick settings menu fyi

One is a LG (LG4270) and the other one is a Sony (KDL32LL150). To add to the confusion, let me restate that 480p and 480i are both correct, as that's what I see from the STBs connected to the LG and Sony respectively. When I did my tests last night I was using the Sony and I saw 480i which led me to think that I mistakenly stated 480p before but it's actually correct also.

In both cases, HDMI-CEC is off.

I do not know why one STB would show 480i and the other 480p. The fact is ONLY 720p and 1080i are enabled for both.

I have also confirmed that the resolutions displayed on the STBs are what the TVs see. Thanks 57, for suggesting the TV display check. There goes my theory that the STB is showing the incoming signal.

I could keep my STB on Fixed, but as per 57, TVs usually do a better job upconverting so I was trying to let the TVs handle it, and I've intentionly disabled the 480i and 480p modes on the STBs while using Passthrough so that I don't have to wait for the TVs to change modes between SD and HD channels. This used to work beautifully until maybe 2 weeks ago when all of a sudden I observed 480i/p showing up on the STBs.

It's possible that with the HDMI connection the "communication" between the TV and the STB override any settings that you do in the STB. One way to "go back to the way it worked before" would be to use component video cables instead of HDMI.

Other comments:

- one of the TVs may not accept 480i via HDMI, hence the 480P signal.
- I've found that the upconversion done by the 4250HD is not bad, so setting it to 1080i Fixed is also not bad (despite what I say in the FAQ).
- 1080i Fixed also often provides a little less overscan.

That would be a logical deduction.

Thanks for everyone's help!
