I have a rogers 4250hd terminal manufactured october 2008. Rev. 1.3. I also have a sony HTIB: DAV-HDX975WF and a ps3. Now. The DAV has a TV input, but has 2 inputs for that - optical and coaxial. I have the 4250 hooked up with coax, and the ps3 with optical. So, when the rogers box is off i get sound for the ps3 and vice versa- which is the way i want it. Problem is, the box doesn't shut off. It seems to shuts off (or go in standby or whatever), but it still outputs sound and video. I was able to order a movie and watch it without turning the STB on!

I have searched but have found very little information on this let alone a solution. I am looking for a concrete solution to this. I have tried unplugging it and replugging it back in, but to no avail. Surely this isnt right, and there has to be a solution. anyone?

These STBs are always sending an audio signal, even when "off" (which is really standby). If the DAV cannot be manually switched between optical and coaxial (usually done by pressing a button repeatedly - check your manual), then you may need an externals switch. This is an issue with many HTiBs which are not designed well for multiple components.

Hi Guys,

I have a LG TV and would like the LG remote to control the HD box, just wondering what's the remote code for the EXPLORER 4250HD.

Thx

The better question nsx817 is what is the model of your LG remote control. Each and every remote control has a different code set and you need to program it based on the remote you have, so without that information you can't find the answer.

Also this can be splt into a new thread :)

nsx817, it's highly unlikely that your TV's remote can control the STB properly since it will (probably) not have some of the functionality (List, A, B, C, etc). It'll be far better for you to do the reverse - have the STB remote control (most of) the TV functions. Or, you could consider a Harmony Remote.

No need to split thread.

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry as I am sure this has been asked before, but I'm new to this forum as well as the HDTV world.
I have a Rogers SA4250HD Box and a LG 1080p LCD - just got the TV

I am not using a HDMI cable.

I have connected the HD box to the TV via regular coax cable (same as what's coming in from the wall to the box.

on HD channels I get grey bars on the top and bottom and the picture quality is ok... but not amazing.

Do I need the HDMI?
if so do I still connect the box to the TV with the coax + HDMI or just the HDMI?

Thank you very much!

You need to use either HDMI or the component video cables that came with the STB for HD. The RF coax doesn't handle HD and it's the worst type of connection to a TV. Remove the RF-coax so that no-one uses it by mistake. If you're using component video cables, you'll also need something to carry the sound, either to the TV or an AV Receiver if you have one. This is typically explained in the operating manual connections that come with the various pieces of equipment. See the following post on Cables & Connections:

Hi again,
another question... I just installed the HDMI cable and the HD channels are amazing... love the look. Now, however, with SD channels I am getting grey bars on the sides. Can I change these to black? I read the grey prevent burn in, but does the SA box allow for the change? if so would you reco doing it?

thank you again.

Hit the settings button on the remote for your box, it's in the menu there somewhere, just don't recall the name off the top of my head.

kubica171 If you're sending 480i signals to the TV for SD channels, then the TV is adding the grey bars. The way to get around this is as follows:

1. Set the STB to a 1080i Channel and confirm that the STB is sending 1080i via the front panel.
2. Go into the Settings (press settings button twice) under "Set picture format" choose "Fixed" - this will now always send 1080i.
3. In the settings there's also something about Set TV borders, choose Dark.

The bars on the sides will now be black and I believe you have an LCD, so you needn't worry about burn in.

This is not recommended for people who watch a lot of SD on Plasmas.

So after rebooting my STB, it is still sending signals to the TV when it is off. I also have another problem every now and then that when the box is turned on (my default channel is an HD channel) I get no signal. I have to switch to an SD channel and then back for it to work.

Any ideas?

My only guess is that it might be because my TV will not switch to an input unless it is getting a signal from it, and all the switching between my components via my Harmony remote.

Others have reported issues with STBs if the "on" channel is HD. I suggest you set it to an SD channel if it bothers you. The issue may go away if you set the STB to 1080i Fixed...

Also make sure that the TV doesn't have the "LINK" activated. The one that automatically tunes to an HDMI input if it's active. See Point 4:

Hi all,

I have a LG LCD, SA 4250 HD box connected with HDMI cable.

I cannot use the volume on the Rogers box remote anymore... so I am using my TV remote for volume and my Rogers remote for channel changes...

can I just use one remote somehow?

thank you everyone!

The STB cannot control digital volume, only the analogue volume. Yes, you can use the Rogers remote to control TV volume.

First you programme in the code for the LG TV so that the Rogers remote can control the TV.

Then you programme in the "global volume lock" so that the remote now controls only the volume on the TV.

This procedure is outlined in the operating manual for the Rogers remote (small white booklet). It is also discussed in post 5 of the SA STB Tips I previously supplied in post 288 - you can also download the appropriate manual if you can't find it.

You can also programme the remote so that it powers both the TV and STB on/off - directions in the remote operating manual.

Tip: For people that have a STB, I recommend having the remote only turn the TV on/off and to leave the STB on since the STB uses only 1 Watt less when in standby and in this manner, one unit is not on while the other is off, which sometimes happens when people don't hold the remote pointing at the devices long enough for the commands to finish. This tip doesn't apply to PVRs.

By following the procedures outlined above, you can always leave the Rogers remote in "CBL" mode.

Hi,

I have a problem with the SA 4250HD as it powers off/resets frequently.

If I turn the terminal off after viewing, then it resets at least every other day. If I keep the terminal on always, it happens only every couple of weeks or so.

Sometimes I when I want to turn on the terminal, there is no power to the box i.e. the time isn't present, nor are any of the green indicators lit.

At first I thought it was a electrical outlet issue, so i ran an extension cord to another outlet. But that didn't seem to make a difference. As well, I had a SD terminal plugged into that power outlet before I upgraded to the SA 4250HD and had none of these issues

Not sure if this is relevant, but I am using a HDMI connection to my TV.

Any thoughts - ?

Thanks

See the following relevent posts: Check your signal strength and S/N ratio - that's probably the problem:

I'm just getting into HD and have 2 sets a sony 720P rear projection and a smsung 1080P LCD.

Presently I'm running one one SA4250 and one SD STB. It seems that aside from the obvious benifit of the HD the 4250 seems to improve the SD picture in some way.

i'm curious is that wishfull thinking on my part or an actual fact??

What is the best way to ensure the very best SD picture. {i've been reading for several days and haven't found the answer yet}

Here's the link on SD PQ. The SD PQ is not usually better using the HD STB, assuming you're on an SD channel - it could be differences in the TVs or the way the STB is set up, etc.
