I am thinking about jumping into Sirius and I am looking for some advice.

I would like to be able to do the following:

1) Listen to my Sirius radio in either of our two cars (only one at a time) and be able to mount it in the car and listen to it through the car speakers.

2) Listen to the radio during the summer at my cottage where I have a "under the counter" radio that lets me plug my Ipod in via a standard mini headphone jack so I'd like a Sirius radio that has a standard mini headphone jack.

3) Listen to the radio at home - is it best to just use my computer or should I get some sort of home stereo kit?


What do you think that I should get? From what I have seen, the Stiletto model seems like the best choice.

Stiletto with home/car kits should do the trick.

The Stiletto 200 is a great unit *but* I don't see anything in your requirements that suggests you couldn't get away with any plug and play unit with the car kit installed and home kits for the house/cottage. The Starmate 4 is my current favorite for plug and play.

If you plan on listening to Sirius on the go outside or want to schedule some recordings to save shows and songs or want to also have the MP3 player then the Stiletto is for you.

Does the Starmate offer any specific benefits, other than being cheaper?

The starmate and sportster 4's have the same featureset and come with the replay functions (pause, rewind, replay etc). The 3's do not.

The Stiletto has a range of other functions like scheduling recordings, the love button to save songs you like to the unit, wifi etc.

If you think you'll use the extra features of the Stiletto then it's a fantastic unit. I don't use mine outside on the go as a portable but I do save songs, MP3's. Were I get the most enjoyment is scheduling recordings on it for when I travel and don't have a signal. Never without content.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the Stiletto and into Plug and Play :) It comes down to what type of use you're going to put them to.

Go with the Stiletto. You can download content and replay anytime.
It's got an FM transmitter if you don't have an output available.
It's got WiFi for semi-portable listening.
You can also stream through the Internet with a Sirius account.

I have a Starmate 3... I went with the Starmate instead of the Sportster because it's smaller, less obtrusive, and easier to install on a crowded dash.

It came with a car dock. I installed that in my main car.. Then I bought two more vehicle docking kits so I can move the radio to my other car and my truck. I also bought a home dock so I can listen in the house, and then I got the boom box so I can take it with me anywhere else I might want to go.

The only down side to this is that the additional docks are expensive.

wouldn't go without a stilleto again. It's got a great feature called Radio Replay that automatically stores content while you're listening. Great if you're in a spot where you can't get sat signal or wifi. It also is the most battery friendly playback. I've had mine run for 20 hours on battery and it still had more to spare

I use radio replay whenever i make my infrequent trips in the car. Saves me having to string up the antenna as I don't have it permanently mounted. I have mine on in the house all day every day to broadcast to our cabins, so there's lots I haven't heard. If I come across a song I don't care for when driving, I simply skip ahead to the next song.

Hey everyone, I'm looking at becoming a Sirius sub, and was hoping I could get some info from current subs as to what I need, and what they reccommend.

First, I would like to know which radio everyone reccommends for both home and car use and what kind of equipment I would need for the radio to work in the car and the house.

Second, which channels do people reccommend? I have a preview of Sirius on my Bell cell phone, but it's only 20 music channel. Are there any good comedy or talk channels?

Travis, Sportster or Stiletto, really depends on your budget and the feature set you want.

For a complete list of channels, see the Sirius site. If you search you will find a thread by Sirius users and what their favourite channels are.

After you decide on which radio you want Travis, I would also suggest that you consider going with a US subscription. Sirius US has more channels and the cost per month/year/lifetime is less than what Sirius Canada offers.

As Hugh posted, if you have the money go with the Stiletto. It works as a great portable with mp3 capability and you can record Sirius content.

By supporting Sirius Canada, however, you are supplying some jobs in Canada, the easy access of 90% of Sirius products at your neighbourhood store, advertising and the sponsorship of canadian teams and events.

Yes.. and XM has way more repeaters in Canada than Sirius, so more infrastructure there as well..

XM also employs many people in Canada, sells radios in Canada, and sponsors sporting events such as the NHL..

So, what is the big deal about Sirius in this case?

Excellent point mrhooie. The only thing now though is that the Sirius Canada signal is "controlled bleeding". :mad:

Which of course makes it much more convenient to activate on the US service since we no longer have to deal with potential customs hassles or having to get it shipped to a US address and then forwarded to The Great White North. :D

Looking to purchase a Sirius radio, either Starmate or Sportster 3 or 4 models.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the two Starmate or Sportster?
The only difference I can see is either the screen lights up Orange or Blue.

Any help would be appreciated.
