Mr Weather,

 It is confusing !

They are using two antennas one broadcasting toward the east and one toward the west. If the antennas are not in perfect harmony, they create an offset double imaged signal [multipath] in the areas north and south of their broadcast lobes. Only the areas to the east and the west of the tower will get a clean single signal path.

Not only that... CW is broadcasting on UHF channel 32, and they virtually remap (via PSIP) to channel 23... ION is broadcasting on UHF channel 23, and they are virtually remapping to channel 51...

My suggestion... start scanning from 23 or lower so that channel 23 scans in first (and would then setup the PSIP remap) and then channel 32 will scan in properly...

Spoonky: ION is using channel 23, which was vacated by WNLO analog.

Hi!!!
Funny thing happened,I had ION watching since I rescanned yesterday, then I lost it at 3pm because it started pixellating, and the signal level dropped to 34%.The Sharp 32'tuner remapped to 23.1,2,3,&4 then no signal.I rescanned, and now the tuner didnt locked ION at 51.1,2,3,4.Is anyone else getting ION.Any suggestion.I am using a CM 4228,NO AMP pointing at Buffalo/Grand island.
Thanks

This isn't meant to be sarcastic but I'm wondering how many people who can't receive ION have actually done a re-scan or just an add channels?

Cheers, Richard.

I've been observing the posts related to ION Television since yesterday. It seems that the transition happened just around the time for the ideal tropo effect. I had ION booming as high as 82% on my Sony Bravia last night. I suspected it wouldn't last because I could get WXXI easily at the same time. The threshold for my tv can go as low as 10% and it's still watchable. Now that weather has cleared a bit the signal is all but gone. If this is what we experience in the summer than the winter might be a total write off for people west of Scarborough.

I have done a complete rescan on two tuners. Both would tune in 23 as WNLO as before, remapping from 32, as before.
My digital converter box will allow me to also add channel 23 manually as its memory has slotted WNLO into 32. I now have a blank "no signal" 23-1 and a second 23-1 with the remapped 32 when I channel up/down. I am hoping that tonight the ION signal will fill in the first "real" 23.
As for my older Samsung 451, there is no choice but to wait until WNLO turns off its PSIP data to try for ION and for the ION signal to "magically" appear so that it will be remapped to 51.

ION is still blasting in here for me in east Oakville -AND - it did so even during the 4PM-5PM drops of death (as my kids call them) caused by turnover over the lake.

In my case, I fired up a long dormant 7778, then I had to re-aim my 4228 for ION and am still receiving all Buffalo channels as expected. In fact, the addition of the pre-amp has solidified Buffalo for me greatly - with no overload - thanks to newer tuners now employed here at the house.

I think it is worth trying to aim for ION exactly. For those with no pre-amp West of Scarborough, it seems to me that it might be necessary to add one.

Jbracing to add physical channel 23 on my Samsung 151,I simple went to add/remove channels then scroll to 23 and it came in.,then add.Ion has not been coming in here this afternoon only about 10%.Yesterday and this morning it did.If you had a good picture when analog 51 was on then you will get it digitally.

Ion has been consistent for me since it came on yesterday although I have notice it fluctuate in strength, but not low enough to cut out. Most of today it was fully peaking but then dropped off to about half for a while but now its back full again. I think if you are from Markham, Scarborough and East its not a problem. I have issues with WNYB. I cant get it consistently, and when it does come in its usually around 3 bars.

As JBracing24 has reported, I also am not receiving ION, due, I believe to CW's remapping and the direction of the transmitter. I have rescanned a number of times on my main TV (Sony XBR2) and the converter boxes. The result is the same 27 Digital stations are received. On the Sony, the signal strength is between 65 and 98% depending on the station. I am using a CM 4221 (old model) with the reflector removed on a 24 foot tower.

Any suggestions beyond waiting would be appreciated.

John

ION is booming on my setup. I couldn't get it on any re-scan until my scan at 9:00pm today (after I changed some wiring in my house) and now i have 100% signal on it. They must have changed something I am not even aimed at their antenna.

Can someone help me figure out why I don't get channels 2,4,or 62 (Fox, NBC, etc.) with the converter box? They were the only ones I watched, so I'm disappointed I spend the $$ to get the box. I'm in Windsor. Thanks!

Any suggestions beyond waiting would be appreciated.

As I reported above, I was able to manually add a second 23 to my converter box that showed no signal. The box had stored WNLO as 32, remapping to 23 which showed up as the other 23-1. Once nightfall came, I picked up the ION signal (closer to Rochester direction for me) on the blank 23-1 and it immediately remapped to 51, all four channels.

The Samsung 451 was a little trickier.

Jbracing to add physical channel 23 on my Samsung 151,I simple went to add/remove channels then scroll to 23 and it came in.,then add.Ion has not been coming in here this afternoon only about 10%.

Yes, going to add/remove, channel down to 23 and it had no signal. I turned my rotor until I got the ION signal and it immediately remapped to 51. It is not possible to do this until a signal is clear.

This is another proof that the new converter box is far superior to the S-451, as I have to move the rotor on my 4228 to get certain channels on the Sammy but can stay pointed at the CN Tower while a smaller attic 4-bay picks up the rest on the Artec converter box.

ION was gone all day with signal strength barely hitting 30%. I had it last night and it's working fine now at night again. . I wonder if it this on/off dance with night/day will continue or if they're just working out the kinks.

How quick is Zap2it to update their listings with new and changed channels? They don't have ION 51-1/2/3/4 listings or RTV 2-3 yet.

Hi
ION TV and its subs dissapeared since 3pm today, and three rescanns after didnt help either, but I rescanned after 10pm and its back,so is Channel 26.1,2.Is this going to be another fair weather friend? or do I need to aim my 4228,directly at ION for it to be constant.I use to get WGRZ 2.1 and it subs very unreliable at least 55% or less but ever since the cutover to digital,I noticed my signal meter on the Sharp Aquos is showing a constant 71% which is exellent cause NBC has always been one of my favourite channel to watch.
