ION is coming in super-strong in Stouffville.

No WPXJ here. Multiple rescans on various tuners. 23-1 is CW (WNLO) and 49-1 is WNYO.

No ION anywhere to be found. What is their virtual number? What is the actual?

Actual channel for ION is 23, virtual is 51. It might help if you aim your antenna in their direction.

Thanks - looks like a trip to to roof for me this weekend.... will have to move my 4228 away from South Buffalo a bit.... might even need to add the 7778 pre-amp I have kicking around in the basement.

That said, the TV Fool prediction of signal looks very bad for the GTA. As noted here, points East will be well served.

ok

49 digital is now up. Very strong signal.

Me too, very strong signal from WNYO-DT on 49, much improved as was predicted.

You still getting Ion 51? I tried moving the antenna just a bit but no dice.

Yes still getting ION. Noticed WNYO on Rogers has gone Blank. I wonder how long it will take them to fix this. I suspect they dont know about the frequency change. TV Fool predictions for your area show no signal at all for ION. From west of Markham thru Toronto to Mississauga WPXJ predictions show no signal.

Thanks for checking. I was hoping to get that one. But thinking about it, if they're using the analog 51 tower and antenna it would stand to reason that for the flash-cut they would just change the frequency to 23 from 51. But, the way the RF pattern is setup is according to 51 which when it was setup, was setup so it wouldn't interfere with some other channel 51. But now that they are on RF 23 that pattern shouldn't be necessary. They could be more omni-directional on RF23. However for a flash-cut the simplest thing for them to do would be to just change the frequency as changing the directional pattern would require physically altering the antenna, which they wouldn't have time to do. That could be done when it is more convenient, like overnight. Of course thats just a guess(hope) on my part assuming they're using the same tower and all. I have no real knowledge of broadcasting so I may be way off the mark.

They would be using an antenna specifically cut for use on Ch-23. They would have to concur with Industry Canada first before they are able to use it and at what Power Level. Its a process that must be complied to. I think the pattern is pretty much identical to the one they had for ch-51 analog.

Well, thanks for the replies guys. I guess we'll have to see what happens down the road.

I just did a rescan and all my buffalo channels are still there...no need to adjust my antenna. I hope none of you out there need to make a trip up to the roof. Antenna with rotator will be handy...

Welcome to DTV...a year to remember for south of the border!

More on WPXJ... What is odd for me is that TVFool, does show some fringe signal for Oakville. On all of my tuners, there is 0 signal. not a whisper of signal.

My Buffalo specific 4228 is aimed between somewhere 129 degrees and 144 degrees to split Grand Island and South Buffalo. WPXJ is at 126 degrees - only 3 degrees to the left off Grand Island from my antenna - so one would 'think' that this current aim might suffice.

Would a pre-amp increase my chances, or should I try to aim it at 126 degrees first to see if there is any improvement at all....?

Before I go to any crazy steps, I would sure like to understand if there is any hope at all of signals actually drifting in this direction.

I will have to check for WPXJ-DT (23) when I get home from work. I'll rotate my antenna over to 115 degrees and re-scan. TVFool reports a noise margin of 0.7 dB at my location so I might have a chance. :)

I've typically been able to receive analog WPXJ (51) but the picture quality varied from almost clear to nothing but snow.

Regarding WPXJ. I've been seeing some signal for about the last half hour or so. It even popped its head over the threshold to establish the virtual channel line-up. Also, a few seconds of video. So if anyone is out there, maybe give it a shot and see if you can pull a rabbit out of a hat. The signal seems much more steady than before. Please report back any results.

WPXJ is working for me.. it's borderline right now, up and down past the lock threshold like a yo-yo, but hopefully that's just the time of day and it will come in stronger later on :p

In the last 10 minutes or so I've been getting more video. Mostly all broken up so it seems to have picked up a bit at least. It seems even more steadier in the last couple of minutes with full screens of video.
