Name one console game that millions or even hundreds of thousands of rabid fans are playing after three years (WoW), five years(EQ), seven years(UO). Back it up or don’t bother offering your opinion. It is common knowledge by most cross-platform gamers that computers are the far superior platform for depth and interaction. This is not to say that console games are any less fun or immersive, just for a shorter time. Consoles excel at FPS games, no doubt.

Even a game like Oblivion, which is the reigning king of massive single-player content is no match for any current online MMORPG. It’s great and it’s fun but it’s not nearly as large.

As a side note, I started Uncharted on the PS3 last night and I was hooked the first minute of play. Conversely, with Mass Effect I played for at least 8 hours and it never really hooked me. My preferences, I suppose, but I am still very disappointed by ME.

how deep was the XBOX 360 version of Oblivion? The PC was creepy deep.

ME has some very good aspects, to be sure. Not enough, however, for me to spend any more time on it.

Mass wasn't made for everyone and your criticisms are valid, its not perfect by any means ... but I think its a good game regardless ... personally I play FPS like TF2 and UT and yea I love WoW too (Ali Azgalor) ... but to put Mass up in comparison to giants like WoW lol ...

WoW is an exceptional game ... PC 4 ever!!!

I think you’re right. It is probably unfair for me to make a valid comparison between WoW and Mass Effect. The point of commonality is that they both require my free time to play. One of them is a joy to play (mostly). The other leaves me begging to know why am I bothering. This is a ME thread so we’ll keep it relevant. ME may indeed be full of all kinds of yummy goodness and it might hit the right spot for many 360 gamers who have burned through all other options at the moment. I don’t want to bash it. I have a huge amount of respect for Bioware. But at the same time I am very surprised how poorly it performs graphically and how shallow it feels. When I compare the graphics I am referring to Uncharted on the PS3. When I compare the depth I will refer to Jade Empire and Kotor, not WoW.

What would be great would be something like ME online… :)

Pretty much sums up my feelings. Think of the depth of ancilliary elements in KOTOR--the swoop bike racing, Pazaak, etc; moral choices that actually affected gameplay (light/dark side), and NPCs that reacted to your decisions. In Mass Effect I find that the difference between being a Paragon and a Renegade just amount to whether you are a jerk or not, but has no real gameplay implications.

Well, still not finished but much further along. I have done all the sidequests available and just completed Virmire. Finally had to face a "tough choice":

Saving Kaidan or Ashley from the Geth. Not that difficult for me, as I use Ashley in missions all the time while Kaidan sits on the ship.

I am looking forward to playing through a second time as a Renegade, and will be disappointed if the story doesn't really change when I'm being a jerk to everyone...

Finished the game - over 40 hrs of gametime. It's tempting to start over and play through to get my character leveled up even more, but I started from scratch as a Renegade Adept.

It's tough to be a jerk, all the time - like when I killed the Rachni Queen but hilarious sometimes too - like when I punched out that crazy scientist in Eden Prime .

I like the way the story unfolded, and am definitely excited about chapter 2!

I am really not all that far along in the game and just finished Virmire (it's like my 3rd mission I have done after the Citadel)...gotta say that this seemed like a near end of game experience, should I have waited before hitting this? I have purposely not read any FAQ's on this game.

What's funny is now that I have chosed an Adept I find combat too be too easy (as opposed to my infiltrator noobness :p )

Still a fun game (give it a 8.5) and fills my RPG void.

I don't think it's much of a spoiler to say that Ilos is the last part of the game. If you want to do side quests, do them before you start that mission!

Name me more then 5 pc games to actually break a million sold or even hundreds of thousands that isn't in the MMORPG genre?

Just because most computer games get expansion packs doesn't mean they are more "in-depth". It just means the game was incomplete.

In your examples PC users are duped into buying new content when infact you are just getting a part of the game you never got in the first place (what did you think expansions packs were?).

I can think of many games that can last much longer then any PC game ( that I played anyway) but if I listed all then this site would explode so I will just give some that I was playing over this past weekend all of which are more then 7 years old so your examples of are nullified (PSO, Final fantasy tactics, R-type final, secret of mana, metalstorm).

You can't say PC games are bigger just because they are broken and spread across several years and might have a few more items to find, thats rediculous. A game is only as good as you find it to be. Consoles just excel at that, pc's don't.

I doubt there are millions of people still playing their console games 5-7 years after the fact since most consoles don't even last that long. Console games excel at action and I think because of this, burn out more quickly.

PC games that have virtually infinite replay value tend to be strategy and simulation type games which consoles really don't excel at (see the list below).

I also don't think it's fair to say that expansion packs are stuff that should have been included in the game to begin with since you can really only expect to get so much for $60. You are paying the extra $$ for more content. The original game isn't incomplete, per se.

Don't want to get into the middle of this, you guys seem to be getting along just fine without me, but most of the non-MMORPGs on that list can be played on a console...
Anyways, I don't think the whole argument is valid anyways, some people prefer to play games on PC while others prefer to play on consoles, we're all just playing video games, get over it.

One thing I have noticed - if you choose a female character, her voiceover work is way, way better than the male counterpart. Also, you get to watch a cute girl running around all game, and boinking Asari babes, instead of some dude.

New content is now available for download on XBL for 400 XBL points. Hopefully I will have time to try it out tonight.

A new 2 disc edition of Mass Effect is going to be released in Feb, according to Gamestop. It looks like the second disc will have the extras from the original collector's edition. The game will include the Bring Down the Sky content previously available as DLC. All for $19.95 (US).

If anyone who likes Sci-Fi or RPGs hasn't picked up Mass Effect yet...

Speaking of DLC - when are the other two DLC chapters coming out? Isn't ME2 due out this year?

I was told that Mass Effect will be coming out for the PS3, is that correct ?
Or was my friend pulling my leg again?

I'm pretty sure Microsoft is the publisher of ME, so the chances of it landing on the PS3 are pretty remote.

Mass Effect was a good game. It took me around 30 hours or so to go through it, and it was fun. I started up a second game months later, and got bored.

Fallout 3 was an even better game. Took longer to go through for me, (maybe because I found it more fun and therfore explored more), and I would definately play through it a second time.

Knights of the Old Republic though imo, was pure mastery of gaming. Especially compared to other games around at the time of it's release. The reviews it got at the time were all good, but they didn't do it justice. It took me almost 70 hours to go through it my first time, I then went through it 2 more times after that enjoying every minute of it, and to this day I have never again played any rpg, or any game period that brought me as much enjoyment overall and as deeply, as the original Kotor.

If another game ever comes out that is the modern day equivalent to a Kotor, I will not be seen by society for weeks!

KotOR is a great game. It felt more like "Star Wars" than espisodes 1-3.

If it wasn't for the horrible framerate during combat it would probably deserve a perfect "10".

Seems like more DLC is still in the works for ME. Also a patch for the PC version:
