Got the word that Shaw is planning on increasing their bandwidth by 20% hopefully by years end. Hope this resolves the HD issues and can then add a few more channels.

Wishlist:

-Bye bye macroblocking.

-More Centre Ice HD.

-Use their HD ppv channels to show UFC. I'm no economist but I think they'd be better off sparing one viewing of The Condemned or Blades Of Glory to air a 40 dollar pay per view.

The end of which year?

Shaw is notorious for taking twice as long to do something as necessary.

And I agree with jfplay about ending the macroblocking. And maybe the audio and video dropouts too please?

What does this mean?

Across every Shaw system, selected few?

if they increase the b/w AND they increase channels how is this going to lower the macroblocking?

I recently shaw an article (http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/11/18/cox-rolls-out-1ghz-across-its-network/) about Comcast increasing most of their network to 1GHz. I wonder if Shaw is doing something similiar. Going from a 860MHz to 1GHz is not exactly 20% but close.

I think what Shaw really needs to do is go to 1GHz in all their plants, and drop all Analog channels (give away one basic digital box per analog subscribed jack) and then focus on more HD, variety, and upgrading the speeds of their basic internet subscribers, and dropping any packet shaping technologies. I have 10mbps from Shaw, I don't really need more than that. But I feel for the people who can't afford that, and only get the measily basic speeds.

My wishlist: macroblocking gone and add Superchannel HD.

Honestly I can't stand Movie Central anymore, but because it seems Superchannel is not mandated by the CRTC to be carried, it looks like Shaw will never carry it. Looking at the Superchannel schedule, it offers wayyyy more variety than MC, and all their programming is in HD. Unlike MC, which seems to maybe have at best one third of their new movies each month in HD, and usually it's the crappy third.

Whatever, good news about the bandwidth increase.

It should be interesting to see what Shaw does.

Is it a coincidence the the Sunday News with Leslie (menzies or whatever her last name is) has been promoing their story for Nov 25 on Canadian ISP and what SPEED they are actually providing as opposed to what they SAY they are selling!!!!
