I have a quick question. I currently have the SONY STR-DG800 as my receiver which is connected to my Phillips HDTV via HDMI and my Motorola HDTV Cable Box via HDMI. My speakers are the Bose Acoustimass 15 Series III. I can only get the audio to go through the TV speakers. After connecting everything, I checked the book for the receiver and it stated that if a component i.e. the cable box, was connected to the receiver via HDMI and then the receiver was connected to the TV via HDMI, that audio would only go through the TV speakers. Basically, I am a moron for not checking that stuff first, but does anyone know a work around to enable the sound to go through the surround sound without removing the HDMI (the picture is ridiculous)?

Maybe use a separate optical audio cable from your cable box to the receiver?

Yes, a separate digital audio cable from the sending device to the AVR is the way to go - be it coaxial audio or optical (TOSlink). On some AVRs the digital audio input may need to be "assigned" to be able to hear it.
