: Rogers SA3250HD Issues
itsingoodshape 2004-09-29, 02:51 PM After repeatedly complaining about slow channel changes on my 3250 today (Sep 29) a Rogers rep advised me that "WINK" will be disabled this Friday Oct 1st. Not just on my box but all around. Hopefully that will cure the sticky channel change problem and maybe others....
(added Oct 19/04)
It seems that the removal of "WINK" has solved the slow channel change problem. I'm not 100% sure since I moved to the 800 channel numbers to avoid the problem. But since Oct 1st I have NOT experienced it a single time.
Anyone else out there comment ?
marvin23 2004-10-25, 12:16 PM itsingoodshape - yes the Wink removal completely solved the problem. I still use analog channels instead of the 800s, and there are no problems since they removed Wink.

ZzRicezZ 2004-11-08, 10:08 AM I just changed a 3100 for a 3250 and can't seem to really understand how the video mode works..
I have a Sony KV-32XBR400 that support HD channels in 16:9 and I see black bar at the top and bottom of the screen which is normal. But when I go to a HD channel that is not Widescreen, i see the picture with-in a black box. Is there anyway to fix this problem? I have the STB set to up-convert 1, and I can see the regular digital channels perfectly with component.
This is a 4:3 TV and the "windowboxed" HD channels are "normal". See the Digital Home FAQ on "Black Bars".
I'm assuming you had the SA3100 (SD) and switched to the SA3250HD.
JAY-DEE 2004-11-09, 01:52 PM Rogers Video stores in Scarborough and Pickering (with HD display centres) seem not to have (and never had) the 3250HD. This is according to the store managers I've spoken with and the Rogers delivery driver who was making his regular store delivery with many, many other models just this past week.
1. Where can someone get a 3250HD in the Toronto east area? Should I bother getting one to connect to my upcoming purchase of a HD television display.
2. Is the 8300HD technology that much more worth it even with the extra subscription costs of recording (for which I have little use)?
(unnecessary quoting removed ;)) - Hey, I edited my quote and I typically only remove long quotes... ;)
1. I got mine earlier this year from the store at Danforth, near Pape.
2. In a word, YES!!! I'm sure you'll find a use for the recording features.

I got a 3250HD at Vic Park & Gerrard (which is in Scarberia) several weeks ago.
captqbec 2004-11-11, 09:04 AM Hi,
You guys get sound with tv off using DVI..? for example, just to listen to music....3250 sound (analogue or digital) directly connected to amplifier with TV turned off and connected to 3250 via DVI....
thx
I do get sound (analog or digital) with TV off using DVI with my SA3250HD.
captqbec 2004-11-12, 07:01 AM ...heheh...hi jlet, looks like we're the only ones in Canuckland that bought a 3250HD for the DVI...or know what it is for...
c'mon people, don't be shy :)
captqbec 2004-11-17, 05:09 PM Hi,
...well Videotron finally fixed my DVI no-sound-tv-off with a new firmware version 1.57.11.a7. At first they were saying it was my tv shutting the stb down.
Panasonic took this seriously and tested this particular behaviour (at their shop in Japan according to reply) and couldn't duplicate the problem with other DVI devices. Also, other users with diff boxes or diff firmwares didn't have problems. I litteraly had to fight my way to the 3rd level techs to get someone to listen....
Darn, shouldn't we get paid to be beta testers?
There have been a huge number of issues with DVI connections (handshakes, shutdowns, etc). That's probably why Rogers doesn't officially support DVI. If it works, fine, if not, you're on your own.
itsingoodshape 2004-12-10, 12:22 PM For the past 2 days I could not get Global and CTV HD, the screen was just black. I very seldom watch those channels so it didn't really bother me. Finally I called Rogers yesterday and the tech told me it was a Toronto problem with 3250 STB's. Then last night it was back on. During this time the channels were fine on my 8300HD. Did any of you out there experience the same thing or was it just my box ??
See the following two recent threads regarding "channel problems" and the SA3250HD.

I had this problem too although my screen was grey rather than black. I had a similar problem a few weeks back withm Omn1&2 HD as well.
Ross_R 2004-12-22, 07:29 PM I have (finally) hooked up my 3250HD to my HDMI-capable plasma with a DVI -> HDMI connector on the 3250HD and an HDMI cable. I kept the component video hooked up at the same time in case of a blank screen. When I flipped over to the HDMI input on my plasma, the 3250 reported for a split second that I didn't have a HDCP compliant display, then voila! HD over HDMI via the DVI port. Thus I can report that HDMI worked great using the DVI out (at least with a Pioneer 1110HD plasma).
Because I had component hooked up at the same time, I was able to do an A/B test. Both me and my wife (who is very, very picky in a nice way) agreed that HDMI via the DVI was better than component (colours were richer, blacks were deeper). The OSD text was quite noticeably crisper.

Ross, I too have connected my SA3250HD DVI to my TV and when compared to component, I found the same improvements as you did (richer colors, and deeper blacks). With component video, my SA3250HD actually crushes the black level as attested by the occasional and rare test patterns sent by some HD channels in the very early mornings. (Note: My TV component video is DVE calibrated but not its DVI interface). My SA3250HD also disables its component video when using its DVI interface (so can't do a quick A/B compare). You are lucky that your SA3250HD allows both interfaces simultaneously.
new-guy 2005-01-27, 11:05 AM i just got my 3250hd hooked up last night... using DVI to HDMI on a panasonic pt47x54... very nice...
took me a while to figure out the settings... ALIAS was awesome in HD..
anyways, why is FOX showing with grey bars,, and when stretched it is over stretched as if it is zoomed????
Please put your location in your profile, that way it'll help us help you.
CBS-HD Detroit has grey bars on 4:3 upconverted programming. Haven't seen this issue on Fox, perhaps there was a glitch and they weren't sending 720P for some reason?
new-guy 2005-01-27, 12:29 PM sorry... I am in Kitchener, ON...
I think i may have gotten the channels mixed up as far as gray bars go.. I did notice the grey bars on some channels and not on others...
But i am almost certain the overstretched issue was on FOX...
FYI.. in the setup wizard i only enabled 1080i, and 480i and p widescreen only... (i have a PT47x54)
