The same problem happened Monday night .

I didn't have the time to switch to NBC from CBS to watch "Life" at 10pm
the simsub from CTV last a fraction of second and the result..... need to reboot
the STB again.......:o

Damn simsub

ps: I thought I've already post about this on Tuesday

One week later......at the same time same problem again

I don't know what the hell is going on with the CTV simsub but
it keeps screwing up the STB.

How many times Rogers would have to replace the STB or the software
to get rid of this issue......

I'm getting tired of this

I'm not going to read the entire thread, so this may have already been posted.

My problem is sound. When I was using analogue stereo, rarely on some channels I would get no sound until I changed the channel and back again. Picture works fine. I thought it might be crappy old Dell TV, but I have since purchased a receiver and I am using coaxial digital. Same problem, so it's likely the box. I can't take the box back, because it's a purchased unit.

Further evidence it's the box: The other day it shut itself down completely for some unknown reason. It's worked fine since... except for that rare no audio issue... which is always correctable by changing the channel and back again.

So maybe I'll just replace it with an 8300HD PVR at some point. That would be my 3rd 8300HD in this house. It's gotta drop to half price or something like that for me to bite though.

My box exhibits the same audio issue. I suppose I could get it replaced since it's a rental (and would probably get a 4250HD in return). But it's really just a mild annoyance that I can live with.

What audio connection do you use?

P.S. Correction. I believe I'm using optical with my unit, not coax. I'd have to check.

Does the 4250 not have this problem?

I use the analog stereo output connected directly to my TV most of the time, and on occasion, the digital coax connected to my AVR. I haven't noticed the problem with the latter (but I really don't use it that often, so that might explain it).

The next time this does happen, it should be a simple matter of turning on my AVR to check if this also affects the digital output.

There have been some "incompatibility" issues between the SA3250HD and some AVRs (documented). Perhaps you have one of these combinations. The SA4250HD may solve the issue, but there are no guarantees, sometimes it depends on the AVR or HTiB. For example, several HTiBs have issues with "popping sounds" when you change channels using the digital connection - it's the HTIB-STB combination that causes the issue.

My 3250HD used to be plugged into my TV via analogue stereo. I still had the same mute audio problem.

I do sometimes get the popping though with my receiver on the 3250HD (and not my 8300HD). Irritating, but not as irritating as the mute audio problem.

The popping is just a split second issue. The mute audio requires me to change channels to fix it.

Would there be another button that may get the sound back without changing channels - mute, info, guide, etc? These would take less time and be less distracting than a channel change.

I have auto-dvi set and forsome reason the border color is always set to light. I can't seem to change it to dark. But if I have it set to upconvert1, I can change the border color.

Is this a bug? I would like my tv to do the converting instead of the STB and not to have the gray sides.

I believe the only way to get the dark border is by sending an HD signal like 720P or 1080i, or with the STB set to fixed 1080i for example.

If you have an LCD, then perhaps you could try sending 1080i fixed to see if you notice any PQ differences. I've noticed recently that on some TVs there's very little difference on the SD channels when sending 480i instead of 1080i, but it does depend on the TV and may also depend on the STB - for example, the SA8300HD and 4250HD may be better at the upconversion than the SA3250HD is.

By way of further explanation, when the signal is 480i to the TV, the TV is adding the bars, not the STB.

To test the formats, simply select Fixed in the settings menu and then you can go into the quick settings (one press of the settings button) and scroll up to the format you wish to send - 720P, 1080i, etc.

I noticed that one of my Rogers cable SA 3250HD was recording 1 hour earlier than it was scheduled to do so this evening. When I checked my settings, all 8 weekly recordings were reset for an hour earlier than they should be. This must have happened on the weekend because my Fri night shows recorded just fine. These recordings were set months ago and I had expected to run into problems last weekend due to the daylight savings switch. Not sure why it happened this weekend.

Anyone else with this problem?

Interestingly, I have another SA 3250HD that I set for occassional one shot recording. I checked it tonight and all 3 timers that I set last week were just fine. Very strange indeed!

Does anyone know why this has happened?

Came home for lunch and the STB display showed (----)

Unplugged the STB re-boot same result

It's not a big deal since I'm moving to a home and in the past month I barely
use Rogers cable thanks to OTA but still weird!

You'll need to call Rogers for a "rehit". If you call from the phone number registered with Rogers, you can usually get the rehit option without talking to a CSR. You can also do this via the Rogers website - sign in and go to "reauthorize your STB" under cable services - there should be a list of your STB and you can reauthorize one or all.

Thanks 57!

I'm moving this coming Friday so I will see if I will get Rogers back
I mostly watch US network show via OTA.

Hi 57... I am new to this forum but with regards to dark borders, you will have to go into setup of the box.

One of the features is to can borders to dark... if you have an LCD screen or Plasma its best to change this to dark as it provides the best PQ.

A while back I was given a JVC HDM40000 DVHS recorder, but I only got around to hooking it up to my 3250HD via firewire last week.

I was happy to see all HD channels come through the DVHS perfectly. I recorded Austin City Limits from PBS on Friday which turned out prefectly. However, as of Sunday the firewire connection no longer works - I just get a blank screen on the DVHS, no copyright error, nothing. The JVC "sees" the 3250HD, and vice versa (in the 3250 firewire diagnostic menu, the JVC is listed there).

I've read other reports that Rogers disables the firewire ports. Was I just lucky to have them temporarily enabled due to an interim software upgrade?

Have a look at the following thread, specific to firewire.
