I was checking out my signal strength using the tips here and noticed the QAM side my "level" is -9 in orange but my s/n is 35-36.

I read that if its in orange its borderline, i was thinking of calling Rogers but wanted to ask if its really a big deal. I haven't had that many problems though; just ocassional freezing and audio drop on certain channels for few seconds (ONMI1 ch. 4 mostly, and HDABC ch. 527).

I was watching the NBA Finals and whenever on commercial the picture always forze every 10-15 seconds and during the game audio kept getting lower then getting higher). All my other HD channels are fine with no issues.

I am connected via DVI to HDMI on my Samsung Plasma.

The ABC Buffalo issues (freezing) are well known. Here are a couple of threads to read if you haven't already.

I picked up a 3250 last week and I can't get it to work with my digital network tuner. OTA on the other hand works fine. After some reading it looks like it's because the 3250 only outputs NTSC/Analog through coax for compatibility with older sets.

Given the STB is absolutely *necessary* to decrypt digital channels, does Rogers have any other ClearQAM/digital output versions I could use?

You can also use the composite or S-video outputs to output to a device, however, that's SD only. I don't really know what you're trying to do? I don't know what you mean by digital network tuner? Rogers doesn't have any clear QAM. See the following post on that matter.

See the following post regarding recording HD, if that's what you're attempting:

You have to use the S-video, component or DVI outputs only.

The RF output doesn't work when fed into your TV set's ATSC tuner.

IF you're talking about connecting the STB to the TV's internal tuner, that is not the way it should be connected. You should use the DVI or component video connnections directly to that particular input equivalent on the TV. I thought perhaps you were talking about a tuner card in a PC.

Once we get further clarification on what you're trying to do, then perhaps we can help more. Perhaps we already have provided enough clarification?

I have an HDHomeRun and I was hoping I could stream channels through my network. It only takes coax and doesn't support output from an analog source e.g. the 3250. So I was asking if Rogers has any STB that sends out an unencrypted transport stream through coax for newer television/pc tuners to handle.

Unfortunately my intended setup is best suited for OTA and the only way I'll be watching Rogers' lineup as per your 2nd link is the 3250 through firewire. Thanks 57.

Hi.

I bought a new Samsung LN46A550 LCD TV a couple weeks ago. It's hooked up to a SA 3250HD.

We've noticed that every once in a while the screen gets really distorted and there is a very loud prolonged static noise from the speakers. This lasts for about 10 seconds, at which point the TV resets itself, and comes back with regular picture and sound.

This only occurs when the TV is connected to our cable box - Scientific Atlanta 3250HD outputting 1080i. It's happened on both SD and HD channels and through both HDMI and component cables.

We have not seen it happen when watching from our DVR - which outputs 480i via component, nor when watching our upconverting DVD player which we've watched at 480i and 1080p via HDMI.

Has anyone come across this with their 3250 before?

Any thoughts would greatly appreciated. I have until this Thursday to exchange the TV at the store, but I'm not sure if it's the TV, or the cable box.

Here's what the screen looks like when this happens:

Sorry for my stupidity as I don't have rogers, but does Motorola make the Rogers boxes? I know i've seen "scientific atlanta" which is pretty much Cisco, but I thought they only made IP ethernet boxes like TELUS TV.

Cisco (SA) makes the STBs for Rogers Ontario. Ones like SA3250HD, SA4250HD, etc. Motorola makes the ones for Rogers Atlantic.

I just got the 3250, have run the setup wizard over and over and the HD symbol doesn't show up, and I have no HD.

What am I doing wrong? :(

Thanks!

HD symbol where? How do you know you don't have HD - via the "info" button on your TV? Most TVs have an "info/display" or similar button on their TV remote which shows the signal that's coming to the TV on the TV display. What is the make/model of your TV? Also, by repeatedly pressing the # key on the STB remote, when you get back to "normal" it should give you the output format.

I assume you've seen the following:

I havent gone through the 40 pages, but about 80% of the time if we're on a CTVHD channel (whether it be CTVHD or something its simsubbing over), if we switch from that channel to ANY other channel, the video signal is lost (tv shows only a grey screen, the IPG still works though), and only way to 'recover' the box is to unplug it.

It is *really* getting annoying as The View, Oprah and a lot of primetime stuff is simsubbed by CTVHD, and my parents dont like to get down on the floor and unplug the box.

We own the 3250 box so Rogers has said they cant find a problem. Our line #s are good too according to the diag screen.

Any ideas?

Last night at 11PM I couldn't get Global or CTV HD 515/517 - black screen. I could get the SD channels 3/8, Perhaps Rogers are making some changes. A few minutes later the channels were back. My signal at my house is a bit lower than it should be, but I've not had any problems before last night, so I'll keep monitoring.

It's strange that your problem is when you change away from these channels. Are you using a DVI connection? If so, see the following thread and change to component video. If you're on passthrough, you may wish to change to 1080i Fixed as a test. Often there can be "re-synch" issue when you change from a 1080i to a 720P or 480i channel, but usually only with DVI/HDMI...

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=71112

You can change to 1080i fixed by changing to a 1080i channel (like CTV) and then going into the settings and changing the "set picture format" to fixed, instead of passthrough. You can then use the quick settings (one press of the settings menu) to change format if desired.

There was a thread on CTV problems around here, but I though it wasn't with the HD channel, rather another one...

Welcome to my club "thegman"!

Last night the same thing happened ....again :(

Last winter and early spring almost every time I've watch a CTV or simsubCTV channel (that I try to avoid as much as possible with my OTA) when I want to switch to another channel......no more signal....channel blank all over only the info from the STB work need to reboot the STB every time d!@#$ it!

I don't know what is going on with that specific channel CTV

Death to simsub....long live OTA ;)

DLPAddict:

Is your hdtv a DLP? (your nick seems to assume it is, but I want to make sure), we have a DLP, so maybe its a problem with DLP tvs with the 3250? (although is that a stretch?)

It seems to be more frequent than before, its almost 100% from the View at 11am-noon, once we switch the channel, bam, grey screen, and reboot required. :/

Finally convince my parents to watch "their shows" in HD when available, and when they do, it screws up the box.. lol. :)

Yep! my baby is a 50" Samsung DLP

It does it even on my good old CRT in my bed room

The Rogers STB is the problem imo not the tv maybe some software glitch?

I remember when they (Rogers) upgrade the software by the end of last winter the problem appeared right after.

But I didn't pay attention lately (nothing good on TV during summer) but last night it started again!

Anyone know what can fix this? Please let me know.

I have the SA 3250HD and have been having picture problems, diagonal lines across the tv. Also the sound has been cutting right out to a static mumble.
Rogers made up some new connections in my apt building and then told me that my box is messed up and that i would need a new one. i own this box, therefore they could not exchange.

any help or info would appreciated.

If the box is indeed bad (after you've done the checks in the first two links), then you may need to get yourself a new one. A cold reboot is the first thing you should try, as discussed in the first and second links.
