: Rogers SA3250HD Issues
Jaymeister 2007-02-03, 07:33 PM I hope this is posted in the right thread, because it is related to the SA3250HD. More specifically, it has to do with the remote control.
I listen to audio exclusively through my Sony DAV-FX100W system via optical input from my SA3250HD. As such, when watching TV, I would love to control the volume with the same AllTouch 2000 remote I use to change STB channels and not have to switch remotes to control volume. I've tried programming every Sony code into it, both for DVD and AUX, and nothing is working. Does anybody know the proper code for Sony DreamSystems on the STB remote?
While you're waiting for someone to respond, you may wish to try the "search" function, which goes through all the codes in the remote, however, a lot of HTiBs don't seem to be available. You may wish to consider something like the Harmony remotes if you can't find a code.
DLPAddict 2007-02-04, 10:09 PM Did some test with the SA3250H
Remove my lower quality splitter and and hooked the cable directly to the STB the signal strength and N/R was much better most of my missing channel where back A&E still MIA. I would have to do the same with my land lord cable they have a splitter coming from the main cable and split the signal to ther STB and my STB.
I will buy a better $$ splitter and do more testing
Thanks for the tips:p
DLPAddict 2007-02-04, 10:11 PM I forgot..... any suggestion on the splitter?
What make,kind,frequency etc....
Thanks
Splitter specs - needs to be rated 5-1000 MHz. No need to pay for anything expensive - just something with those specs. Almost all two-way splitters have a 3.5 dB signal drop, so don't expect much from a new splitter unless yours was really bad.
marty shaw 2007-02-07, 02:36 PM Ha ha....
I see that others are having problems since the firmware upgrade.
For the past few weeks I have had problems, of course came here to see if I was not alone, just peeping.
So I knew the source of problems based on what I read here, but some have different symptoms.
For me the 3250HD would:
1. Shut off on it's own and will not start up with the (box's) power button.
2. Have nothing but black screen on all channels(but have the channel bar at bottom.0
3. some channels had problems with big blocks of pixels trying to "tune in" ..I think I can, I think I can....
For #1 & #2 I have to reboot by unplugging the power cord.(as recently as yesterday)
#3 only occurred one day last week and has not happened since.
Perhaps they are still pushing down fixes ??
Every time it happens I tell myself the box is going back for a replacement, then it is ok for another few days.
anywho... I will keep an eye here for other's problems.
Good work 57... over 22,000 posts! do you ever sleep ???
intrac 2007-02-07, 02:46 PM No problems since the update on any outputs.
Original problem of the DVI output and HDCP error is now gone.
Using component and optical output now since my HDMi input is being used by another device.
GQUEUE 2007-02-07, 03:51 PM 1. Shut off on it's own and will not start up with the (box's) power button.
2. Have nothing but black screen on all channels(but have the channel bar at bottom.
I have had these 2 problems as well the last couple of days. The first one will come up on its own after about 15 minutes (like its doing its own reboot). The second problem, I haven't found anything that works except unplugging the STB and rebooting.
I have also noticed lately that when I change channels, it takes a second or 2 for the audio to kick in. Is this something new since the last firmware upgrade?
DLPAddict 2007-02-07, 09:22 PM Here we go again!
Turn on the TV,STB,Home Theatre.....watche TV for an hour or so try to zap through another channel......nothing!?
Black screen nothing try surf through all the channel .....still nothing:confused:
Reboot the STB and voila!.....this is the second time in two days...more:confused:
I don't know what going on with the STB or Rogers?
Like I posted before since the updated firmware the STB is acting up I followed 57 instructions checked the Signal strength remove the splitter etc...
After all seems to work OK but.....
Any idea??
Thanks
marty shaw 2007-02-07, 11:19 PM Splitters do not go bad just like that. (of course a good quality splitter with low insertion loss would be ideal)
These problems are all due to the firmware up(down)grade.
It is because of my problems with the SA3250HD that I checked in to the forum.
Not coincidence that others started having problems at the same time.
At least with Micro$oft we have the opportunity to download updates or NOT.
But I digress... they own the box. I do not. :D
DLPAddict 2007-02-08, 10:12 PM Same problem a few minute ago right after CSI try flip through another channel.
Rebbot the STB .....work until the next time.
I will call Rogers if there having any problem since the upgrade firmware or it's my STB is goind down the drain!?
marty shaw 2007-02-10, 01:41 AM Same problem a few minute ago right after CSI try flip through another channel.
Rebbot the STB .....work until the next time.
Same thing happened to me about 10:00PM Thursday, same time as you.
Here is the thing, this time I immediately switched over to my HTPC.
It also had no signal, definately Rogers this time.
I am at Wellesley & Yonge
marty shaw 2007-02-13, 01:54 AM DLPAddict,
How has yours been?
Your not going to believe this...
It happened again Tuesday night at...
10:00 PM exactly !!! the SA3250hd definitely, cable ok.
DLPAddict 2007-02-13, 10:55 AM Mine shot down last night ....I mean completly "OFF" dead nothing:confused:
An hour before "24" !!!!!:o :o
Unplug the D!@#thing and reboot it ....and work for now.
Since I reboot the STB last thursday the box was OK...until last night.
I'm calling rogers today...
DLPAddict 2007-02-13, 12:21 PM I forgot I lost A&EHD for almost 2 weeks?
Black screen ..nothing.....
grumpyguy1 2007-02-14, 01:39 PM Bought the HD3250 to hook up to my Viewsonic N3752W. Easy hook-up (DVI to HDMI with conversion cable), audio straight from HD3250 unit to stereo receiver. Great picture, great sound. Only issue?
It turns itself on. Returned the unit to futrue shop after Rogers Tech Support couldn't resolve the issue and swapped it for another one figuring it was a bad unit. Guess what? Second unit does the same thing. Note that this also happens with all other cable hook ups as well (component and composite)
Rogers Technician visited the house and tried to fix it. Did not resolve the issue (although I do now have a stronger signal apparently).
Has anyhone else come across this issue? During the 3rd call into Rogers the tech support individual did confide to me that they were having issues with this model turning itself OFF, but had never heard of them turning themselves on.
What is very strange is that the power button and all the lights on the unit actually remain off but both the audiio and video feed to the stereo and the Viewsonic. Can't change channels or adjust the volume until I actually turn it on.
Has anyone esle experienced this? Of note is that both the units I bought had a manufacture date of January 2006. I will be returning the 2nd unit to Futrue Shop and looking through the boxes for one with a later manufacture date.
Can this box use DVI and svid/composite at the same time? It seems I am having an HDCP issue, when viewing svid/composite the DVI is blocked and I get an annoying prompt when changing channels.
I just got a Dell 2007fpw monitor, has DVI(HDCP), VGA, Svideo, composite inputs. It workes fine on DVI from the 3250 which I have set to 720p only.
However, trying out all the inputs, when I switch from DVI to svid or composite and change channels, after a couple seconds I get the 3250 screen saying "Copy Protection, The DVI/HDMI output is blocked, press EXIT to Cancel" and hitting exit brings the picture back.
However, when I use picture-in-picture, DVI and svideo show fine together.
With a properly set up STB and TV, there should be no need for the S-video and/or composite connections. We have noted before that the STB can be "confused" by multiple connections and if the STB doesn't work that way, recommend either disconnecting the "unnecessary" connections or using the "workaround" that you have found (pressing exit).

I would suggest that you run the advanced setup wizard and include 480i standard (or 480P) and that may improve the picture quality for SD, or perhaps use component video cables, so you don't have HDCP issues.
Thanks for the answer, prompt as always :)
I would like to use the monitor for both computer and tv though.
For example, using the computer on vga while watching tv on svid PIP, and then switching to tv on DVI when something good comes on. I can do that right now, but the annoying copy protection prompt keeps coming up which I have to exit from. Ah well, guess I could deal with it.
If you remember any threads already discussing this, please point them out.
italpasta 2007-02-20, 10:37 PM Same thing happened to me twice tonight. Watching HDDSC, flipped it to see the score on the leafs game, and bam the screen went grey. Did a reboot and about an hour later same thing happened when I tried to switch the channel.
This also happened last week.
NOT GOOD
