I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem:

Equipment:
SA3250
Yamaha HTR5230

I'm feeding the optical out on the 3250 to the Yamaha. On Rogers Channel 501 (The HD Preview Channel), The digital audio stream cuts out every couple of seconds. None of the other HD channels do this. I called Rogers about it and they said, "oh just use the analog output". True, this works, but the digital signal sounds sooo much better (from the bits that I can hear).

I see no settings on my Yamaha that would cause this.

Is anyone else seeing this? or should I be getting a new receiver?

Thanks!

This is an issue that has been reported with the SA3250HD many times before. You don't have any problems that other people with the same STB don't have.

If you upgrade to the SA8300HD, the issues are gone.

If I were to buy an SA3250HD set top box at futureshop or bestbuy, would I be able to trade it in for a Pace DC551 at a rogers store, or does trade in only apply if you are renting a set top box/ bought it at a rogers store?

Is there any extra charge for trading in a set top box for another?

Also, are there any stores in Toronto, preferably in etobicoke, that sells the PaceDC551 besides a rogers store? The futreshop and best buy websites don't list them so I'm assuming they don't sell them.

Oh I wasn't sure if I should put this in the pace thread or this thread since the question is sort of about both.

Thanks

Hey there,

Yes, I have been experiencing this on channel 501 and ever since day 1. I got the HD service almost a year ago in November 2004. I also only see the problem using the optical output, and only on the following 2 programs (1) MMVA's 2004 (last year) and MMVA's 2005 and (2) on the CBC HDTV information program.

I thought that it may be the HD3250 box or my receiver, the Sony STR-K4800P. When I called Rogers about it last Winter, they said that they were unaware of any problem. Also friends had never experienced this etiher, but none were using the optical output.

After reading through the forums, I found a number of others that experienced the same sysmptoms. I found too it was only the optical output as the analog never gave me any problems, but you're right, the optical gives the true 5.1 that I'm looking for on most programs.

I guess it's just one of those annoyances that we have to live with unfortunately  .

Cheers!

I have the same question and hope someone can answer it. I would like to swap out the SA3250HD for the Pace 551. I did e-mail Rogers and got this response from a Diane J. ...

"In regards to your inquiry, we do not have any Pace HD terminals available through Roger's."

I know the Pace 551 has an HDMI connection which is what I'd like for my Panny 53X54J.

Can someone answer this question ?

You can connect SA 3250HD DVI-D/HDCP output to you TV's HDMI input. It should work fine for video. Audio will have to be connected separately though (using analog stereo jacks or digital audio output of the STB to either HDTV or home theatre receiver).

I have an issue with a 3250HD connected to a Sanyo 30T744 TV using
a DVI-HDMI cable. The display rolls ( will not sync ) while displaying 480i
or 480P on the TV. It works fine at 720P and 1080i .
I tried different combinations from the setup menu on the 3250HD, but still
have problems with 480i/p.

Everything works fine with component connections (including 480i/p). The DVI-HDMI cable is brand new, and so is the TV. I thought the 480i/p would
passthrough the DVI connection ( like component connections ). I currently have the 3250HD setup to use Auto-DVI with 720P and 1080i enabled.

Should 480i/p display properly from the DVI-HDMI connection ?

480i standard and 480i wide modes are not supported at all over DVI input of my Samsung LT-P326W with SA 3250HD's DVI output. 480p standard and 480p wide modes work fine with TVs DVI input. With HDMI input of the TV all 480 modes work fine. I'm also currently using DVI with 720p & 1080i modes enabled and STB set to Auto-DVI.

I am uising the optical output on the 3250HD into a sony receiver and I also get the sound dropouts on Rogers channel 501, but only on the Much music award broadcast.
Other 5.1 broadcasts on this channel are OK and other HD and SD channels are OK with 5.1 Broadcasts. Rogers doesn't have an answer.

What could be the issue with the Muchmusic live awards show?
What could it be

It a problem with the SA3250HD and the encoding of this particular programme. This has been reported many times before on this forum, so please believe me. Your other channels and programmes should be fine, except for the occasional dropout. See below:

I have the 3250 and it only has a coaxial output for digital audio, but my receiver only has an optical input.

Is there any kind of adapter I can get for my receiver (or something else)?

If it's a 3250HD and you're renting, ask to trade it for the newer one that also has an optical output.

I don't see where anyone has posted this before but for those who are wondering why their SA3250HD gets so hot and how much it's costing in electricity, here's what I measured on mine:

SA3250HD AC power consumption - in range of 16-17 Watts at usual 120Volts AC 60Hz

Note that this does NOT change when you switch it OFF. It draws the power 24 hours per day until you pull the plug.

Note that at our present REAL cost in Ontario of $0.10 per Kilowatt-hour, this box uses over $14 per year of electricity. (again, regardless of whether it is ON or OFF)

Hi,

I originally thought that DVI is disabled on the SA3250, but after reading these forums I realize that is not the case... I have an HDMI input on my Sony LCD so I got myself a DVI to HDMI converter for my HDMI to HDMI cable, plugged it in, reset the STB and... nothing. I got my STB in April of this year, the SARA version is 1.52.11.2.... Is it normal for this not to work ? Does anyone have the same settings and DVI enabled ?

Any help is appreciated.

Most of the energy consumed by this box goes into heat so in the winter you're not wasting the energy because you are in fact heating your house.

This box should have its own shelf in your component cabinet with lots of ventilation.

ampli2de, you need to run the setup wizard again, not just reset the STB. Also have the DVI as the only video connection. See the Digital Home FAQs.

If you buy the box it's YOURS and you cannot exchange it to a different model.
If you RENT it from Rogers you can exchange to a different model at no charge. For example, when I rented out my 3100HD SA box I traded it in later for 3250HD box. Any upgrade to a better model such as a DVR box would cost some dough of course.
If you're looking for a Rogers store you should use thier home page rogers.ca and "Store Locator" tool. Once you locate the store phone them up in advance to find out if they have a Pace unit in stock.
Hope that helps.

Out of curiosity, has anyone in Ontario (or elsewhere I suppose) recieved the new Loop-Through model of the 3250HD?

It has HD inputs on the back in the same manner as the Pace box.

Just wondering if all IPG/Guide based functions are turned off when viewing content via the loop through inputs? I would suspect yes, but it would be great if they weren't. :)

Edit: didn't really want to start a new thread for this, even though it doesn't really fall into the 'issues' catagory.

I have an SA3250HD connected directly to a Panasonic PX500 Plasma through a DVI-HDMI cable. everything works ok except from time to time, in the middle of a show, the program is replaced for a few seconds by an error "something along the lines that I am not using an HDCP compliant set and I should switch to component" then everything comes back to normal...

the SA3250HD indicates
P/V OS: OS High Definition Edition 1.0.4
Flash: 1.52.11.2
Apps: SARA v1.52.11.2

I've see old references to this kind of behavior but was wondering if anyone has a workaround ? or suggestions ?
