Hey guys.

Ok where to start.

I got a 6100 hd reciever yesterday, and i already had the dish mounted when i bought the house. So i plugged everything into the reciever, plugged the reciever in, and went to the point dish menu.

On Sat 91 i am getting 90% green, on Sat 82 i am getting 70-72% green.

Now, i have been on the phone with bell 8 times about getting this thing up and running, and each person tells me something different everytime.

One will ask what the signal strength is on both 91 and 82, and then tell me to do a check switch, and everything comes up fine. Then they will say to exit out of the menu and wait 2 hours for all the channels to come and everything will work. (done this 3 times)

The next person will tell me that i need to upgrade, so i go into system upgrade and hit save with the without my permision checked, and then they say to shut the reciever off and wait 1 hour, then i can turn it on and everything will be there. (done this twice.)

The only thing that has happened is i have more channels now but they are all red. There is a few that arent, but none work.

Anything any of you guys know that can help me with this, as it seems the techs at bell are about as smart as sticks.

Thanks

I'm not quite sure I understand your problem...

Are you saying you can't watch any channels at all? .. You say "none work" .. What happens when you select a channel? .. Do you get a black screen? or do you get a "satellite not available message"? Or do you get a "you are not subscribed" message?

Red guide means not subscribed. Bell probably has your receiver or smart card number wrong. I would ask them to triple check it.

Most all the channels are red. The ones that are not, when i go into them it says your smartcard does not currently have authorization to view or purchase this program.

OK.. If that's the case, then you have a problem with your subscription.. I agree with what peano says.. You should confirm that BEV has the correct info about your receiver and smart card.

BTW... I'll assume you HAVE subscribed to Bell's service :) .. Did you buy the 6100 new, or used?

yes i subscribed :)

the 6100 is new from the bell store..

Actually i also just got off the phone with an old Bell installer, and he told me that they have not put a "HIT" out on my receiver yet, he said once they do it only takes 5 minutes. So either bell is slacking, or like you guys said they probably did not get the receiver or smart card number right.

But it is pretty rediculous to go through this crap for almost a full day.

I will let you guys know if that is the problem or if it is something else.

Thanks

Well i just got off the phone with bell again. They went through the same thing again the past 2 techs did, and she said that she can see my sat signal, but the receiver must not be downloading. So she said to wait another 2 hours (i am getting so damn sick of this) and if it doesnt work this time they are sending me a new receiver.

Have any of you guys had a receiver sent from bell? And how long did it take?

Thanks.

Well she at least did say one thing that is true.....She cannot see your Satellite signal, it is a one way system, so there is no way anyone at Express Vu can tell if you have signals.....

Do you see ANY channels at all.?

Did you check the R00 # with Express Vu.?

Have you removed the Smart Card and reinserted it.? (if there is one).

I don't know what these people at bell are on? WOW.

There is a ton of channels in the guide but most are red, the ones that are white it says your smartcard does not currently have authorization to view or purchase this program. Now the only channel that i can watch is channel #198. It comes in fine.

Also yes i told her the receiver # and the smart card # again and she repeated it back to me and she had it right.

So i don't know what the hell is happening, and it seems they don't either.

As far as i am concerned they can get another receiver on a courier and overnight it to me.

Also i have removed the smart card and put it back in and nothing.

Well one thing I can tell you straight away is you have a Refurbished receiver, not sure if you knew that or not.....

It would appear that as yet the receiver is just not authorized.

Apart from 198 you should also see an HD channel in the clear as well.

Activation of a receiver can take between 2 minutes and 2 hours.

If you still have nothing, then all you can do is ask them to send you a replacement. It will take 3 to 5 business days.

Is this your ONLY receiver.?
Are you a new Customer.?

Yes i knew it was a refurbed receiver.

2 minutes to 2 hours for activation hmmm. I have waited for 2 hours 5 times now, everyone must be on a coffee break whenever i phone...

Yes it is my only receiver, and i was a customer about 6 years ago but cancelled it because of work. Now i am trying it again, and this is not impressing me at all...

Doesnt look like i will have a new receiver and haveit up and running by the time i get my new panasonic plasma on wed either :(

OK, so can I ask why you did not take advantage of a Free Installation.?

Also, the Dish, does it have 2 x LNBF's and an SW21 or SW44 hooked up inline.?

As a self installation you will not get any free service calls.

Ok, well the dish was already mounted on the house, i bought the house last year. All i had to do was put on the sat 82 LNB since the dish that was mounted outside had the sat 91 LNB already on it. It also had 2 cables on the one LNB. I guess the previous owners had 2 receivers? So i took the one cable off the 91 LNB and put it on the 82 LNB.

The lines were still run into the house, all i had to do was put in the SW21 and plug the cable into the back of the reciever.

I didnt see the need for a guy to come install everything when most everything was installed.

As soon as i plugged the receiver in i had a good signal to both the 91 and the 82.

Well it certainly sounds like you are installed correctly.

Some Refurbished 6100's have had an issue with activation, although most have problems seeing the Smart Cards.

All you can do is wait.....

Only other thing that I can think of is the R00# is incorrect on the packaging.

I know it's a long shot but when you read the R00# to Express Vu, are you getting it from the Box, the rear panel of the receiver or the System Info Screen.?

We have had receivers with different numbers on all 3.....lol

Last question, what is the software version in that system info screen.?

I can't think of anything else, I just checked with a couple of installers, they have had no problems activating receivers today, nothing unusual anyway....

Getting the R00# from the system info screen.

The software version on the system info screen is E564.

Also all 3 R00#'s are the same.

And just got done my fifth 2 hour wait and nothing has changed except for the amout of patience im losing. :)

Sorry Tim, it is all up to Express Vu now......

You have the correct software and everything.

Just waiting for Bell.....

I can think of no other reason at all.......

The Rom 206 card could be buggered and is not accepting the tier updates. That is the only thing I can think of other than Bell has not actually sent the "hit".
