That's cool! Now I'm going to pick up one of those remotes for sure! Originally I wasn't even going to bother picking up the bluetooth remote...

No question that it's a great solution. I will certainly put the BluWave out to pasture if Ben gets those units into production.

It's interesting. I wonder what it would cost, on top of the cost of the remote, which you'd never use. Sony should just buy the idea from this guy. Sell a little black, infrared box, which you plug in wherever you want. The box would receive the infrared commands and send the corresponding bluetooth signal. It just wouldn't need to look like a remote, or have all those parts. Maybe cheaper.

This sounds very promising, but don't discount what remote makers are doing.

I would not be the least bit surprised if, tomorrow morning, Logitech announced either a new model with built-in Bluetooth, or if they released their own BT extender, just like they have an RF extender.

As the owner of a 659, an 880 and 1000 Harmonys, I would definitely prefer the BT extender ;) (last thing I need is another Harmony)

How about Sony adding a touch screen to their PSP which is already BT compatible to control the PS3, an application that can learn and transmit IR signals for all the other remotes, then we'd have a IR/BT universal remote that also receives signals back from the PS3 (info such as track, title, bitrate and other goodies on the smaller PSP remote screen) and a device thats more than a portable gaming/video machine. I'd buy that for less than some of these $500+ universal remotes.

I saw the 7 dollar remote at Superstore but passed on it, until now. I picked up 3 HDMI cables at 9.88 apiece instead. This weekend I'll go back for the remote to program the Harmony 880. Thanks for the heads up on it.:)

Check out the IR2BT - InfraRed to BlueTooth Converter for controlling your PS3 via universal IR remote (http://www.ir2bt.com/)

It went on sale today and the 1st 200 units are sold out. Looks very interesting and there's some good information in the website's forum.

Umm, so do I get any money for my idea?

Seems a bit expensive (they list it at $150). For $25, the PS3 remote is a much better option. I know the whole point is to use one universal remote (I'd love to just have my Harmony), but I'm also not about to shell out $150 either.

I have an IR receiver for my Media Centre, why not write a program to transcode the commands and transmit it via Bluetooth. Is there an application to use the iPhone as a remote?

I tried the $7 remote. It was hit and miss with my Harmony 880 or even solo. I picked up the Sony remote a couple of weeks ago. Much better.

IR2BT dropped the ball IMO with their only option being the new $150 unit (the original was $55)

The best sub $100, universal remote, full control option is the IR4PS3. I picked one up a couple months ago and it works very well with the Harmony remotes. You have to gut a PS3 bluetooth remote to build it but for under $80 it's the best option out there if you want full control of your PS3 via your Harmony remote. He doesn't have a website though as he does all his business through e-mail. You can e-mail the guy at:

ir4ps3@hotmail.com

Search for ir4ps3 on youtube....he's got a tutorial video on how to assemble his kit.

We have discussions on both the IR2BT (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=83776) and the IR4PS3 (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=90032). I have tried them both and completely agree that the IR4PS3 is a better solution.

JohnnyC... Thanks for the heads up on this.

Does anyone know if the USB on the Pace Tahoe PVR is always on (to power the IR4PS3 ver 3 Module)?
