We bought our first condo in the mid 1970s - about 1500 sq ft two bedroom with den in Don Mills - 25th floor of 26 story building with real wood burning fireplace for just over $40/sq ft. The condo had (and still has) an unobstructed SW view of the entire Toronto skyline - nice place.

At the time, we also looked at a couple of places like Harbour Square - view of lake and city with suites looking out both sides of the buiding on two levels - sweet! and Palace Pier, unfortunately they were too far from work for my wife and I and they were a bit more (not hugely more) expensive (under $100k).

We've come a long way I guess...

IMHO, I still prefer houses, and this is coming from someone that still has a flat in London overlooking the millennium dome ( now the o2 centre )

I like the advantage of being able to do gardening, a private garage with entrance into the house, a work bench in the garage, and the ability to do what I want to my building without anyone telling me I can't

Not many places in Canada you can do that.

Don't know where you live, but I can put dishes up on my roof, on the side, and an antenna tower to boot, try doing that in a condo
