Hey folks - anyone know if Eastlink is planning to offer multiroom control of DVR boxes?

Where I used to live our Digital Cable company used Scientific Atlanta boxes which gave you the ability to payback/control our HD DVR from any other regular digital box in the house. It was great - you could start watching something in your rec room, and then continue playback in your bedroom if you felt tired.

This also came in handy because you didn't have to get a DVR for every room in the house, you just needed one.

I read the specs on the new Motorola HD DVR's and they appear to have the capabilty, it's just a matter of whether or not Eastlink has/will invest in the functionality (not sure what's involved - assume a software upgrade and/or ensuring all other non-DVR boxes have the control capabilities).

Anyway - I just ordered my second HDDVR from them and it got me wondering, let me know if anyone knows about this. From a marketing standpoint, this is a HUGE advantage for cable over satellite as it requires lower cost for equipment yet the benefit of having a DVR on every set. :)

Was the company that offered this in Canada? I've heard of this before but mainly in the States. The Motorola solution uses something called MoCA but I've never heard of it being deployed in Canada. I agree that it would be a cool feature to have available.

It was Bermuda Cablevision. I was there for almost 6 years, and for the most part their service/system was crap, they only went digital a couple of years ago. Within the first year of it's release, they started offering the multiroom solution - I couldn't believe how seemless the operation was, no extra wires or anything.

Yeah that "MoCA" feature was the one I was reading about on the Motorolla website and realized my HD PVR had it. I wonder how hard it would be for Eastlink to offer given that the hardware they are currently deploying has the ability??
