I am just curious to know what the consensus is regarding BC games on the 360 and Ps3 from a quality standpoint (not quantity)
When I had a Xbox and Ps2 I always purchased multiplatform games on the Xbox since they were usually 480p and 5.1, thus they looked better, however, I started thinking that maybe now it would be wiser to purchase older multiplatform games on the Ps2 since they are upscaled to 1080p and can be stretched to full screen.
logically this seems like the wise decision but does anyone have any first hand experience - does the Ps3 really do a better job upscaling then the Xbox 360?

Here's a great review of the PS3 upscaling with side by side comparisons:

The 40gb that is being released I hear has no backwards compatibility.

We've only purchased one original Xbox game for our 360, Black, and the quality of the upscaling is quite good.

Upscaling makes little difference.

Backward comaptibility on the 360 I find is better. If a game works, it works great, the PS3, not quite the same, I find odd little glitches here and there. Plus I also find the upscaler on the 360 does a better job of cleaning up older games than the PS3 does.

I have had no issues with the 8 or 9 PS2 games I have played on the PS3. You have about more than 90% of the PS2 games reportedly playable on the PS3.
There are little glitches here and there on some titles for the PS3, but I find the number that are reported to work well on the PS3 seems to be significantly larger in number than on the 360. Firmware updates have also happened on the PS3 to make the PS2 games look much nicer than they used to. Also, 360 dashboard updates happen regularly to add to the total list of xbox playable games on the 360, so they continue to add support for more games as well.
In my opinion, overall you have better backward compatibility bang for your buck on the PS3. Best bet for you though are the following links if you want to explore the current state of backward compatibility on both and judge for yourself which system better suits your game choices:
Current complete list of Xbox playable games on 360 (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm)

You obviously never played Forza Motorsport (the original) on your 360...some major framerate issues there.

Actually I have, that's one of the few Xbox games I kept... didn't see any issues there, but I guess I'll try again and see what you're referring to, even though I have Forza 2. :)

The only well emulated game I have played on the 360 is Jade Empire. KoToR 1 & 2 had horrible framerate problems during battles and audio glitches. Manhunt has a major audio glitch as well. Silent Hill 4 had graphic/texture glitches.

Oh well, I guess the games I've tried have worked fine... :)
