If you're talking about Sens-Pens it's an SD broadcast.

are small audio drops (loss of signal) normal for SHAW HD. i've noticed since going HD, we get a lot of missed dialoge here and there, only a spit second, but it's very annoying.

is it a SHAW problem or a hardware problem? i don't notice it on our regular digital shaw pvr, only the HD one.

i also get a small line across the top of my tv, seems to be only on the HD channels when there are not filmed in 16:9, but it also comes thru on some of the 16:9 channels. my tv is set to automatically format for 16:9 (just scan) and when i leave it on this setting i get a small bar across the top of the screen that is black with white static, then if i reformat the size of the pic, just zoom it a bit, it goes away. what gives?

and unfortunately YES!, this is very common.

As for the line at the top of some HD pictures, I have the same thing and it isn't consistent. I think it is a broadcast issue as some program segments have it and others don't, even in the same program.

The audio drops have never been worse for me. I didn't have them as bad as a lot of people did earlier in the year but I get lots now.

so the audio drops are not a hardware problem that i should be concerned about? i was worried it was my refurbished PVR or my TV.

here's a pic of the banding i get across the top of some channels:

and yet, the channel 1 up (both on HD channels coming in 4:3 size), the picture does not have that. go figure.

As was stated before, the audio drop-out seems to occur because of BOTH hardware and Bandwidth issues.
To determine whether your particular drop-out is due to your hardware, or due to shaw's craptastic service, REWIND after an audio drop occurs.
- if the sound magically appears - it's your hardware
- if the sound doesn't come back - it's shaw.

Personally, I have never had sound come back for me. My box will RECORD the audio drop-out, telling me it's shaw's issue from the source (for me, anyways).

Some people have been able to rewind and the sound re-appeared for them. This tells you that the problem occurs because the box had issues sending the sound output the first time OR the box temporarily dropped sound, and your receiver switched input modes.

I noticed about 4 drop-outs when I was watching Grind house: Planet Terror I recorded of MCHD ch227. I didn't think of rewinding it back to see if the sound came back but I'll remember that for the next time. Thanks for the tip Chaotix that will help me determine if it is Shaw that's responsible. I hope it is then maybe I can call and complain. As I'm writing this post I can remember several different other recordings that had audio drop-outs.

BTW: I never had this problem before 2 months ago.

another big problem i have is with the PVR malfunctioning now and then. it will record a show, i'll get 10min into a 60min program, and then all of a sudden it will jump the the last 5min of the show and there is no way to get it back.

i called once on our regular digital PVR and they reset it from there end, said it might help, it didn't really. now my HDPVR has a similar problem the other night when i records FIGHT FOR THE TROOPS on SPIKE. i was FF thru the commercials and it jumped way forward, i was able to get the programing back this time, but if it happens again, i think i'm going to ask for a NEW PVR, as this REFURB is only about 3mos old.

anyone else have these problems.

You should ask for a NEW box.

Shaw's answer for almost any tech issue is to reset the box.

yeah, i think i'll watch whatever shows i need to on this one, then phone and request a NEW box. i was never told that my box would be refurbished (i got a deal on it), so i was a little pissed about that. and now the audio drops are getting annoying.

i was watching CSI on CBSHD tonight on the PVR and there was a few audio drops for split seconds, and when i rewound the PVR, the audio was fine on the 2nd playback, so it's probably a hardware issue. i don't expect the new box to work perfect, but at least it will be a fresh new one.

The HDMI out on the HDpvr is supposed to up the output of the stb/pvr to 480p. However what I find is that it is the old GIGO situation. The commercials definition is on par with Bell's 480 sd satellite feed but the network television shows suck, go figure. The HD content is as advertised but the SD feed seems to have two standards:

one for programs
one for commercials

Does anybody else see the difference? Does changing the output to rgb help make the network feeds look any better or is Shaws' bandwidth for SD programming reduced to a minimum so there is more room on the pipe for the big money makers?

ROFLOL... HD channels 224 (golf) & 225 (frame) have been unwatchable since 6pm my time in my area. After being on hold for 30 min the best the Shaw repair dept could come up with is "unscrew your cable from your STB and from the wall then reconnect them". I guess my Shaw account that has been in existence since 1995 says " Born Yesterday":D

BTW current time is 7:16 pm and still unwatchable.

Watched part of the Oilers-Hawks game 12/16 on WGN HD. Tons and I mean tons of pixelating. Colors were vibrant, but PQ was crap.

That's very strange as I watched a good portion of the game on WGN HD last night and had no pixelation. Perhaps there was something going on in your area or it may be a problem specific to your home.

I am having a problem with the channels saying they are 5.1 and the voices coming out of the center are soo quiet i have to crank my reciever right up to hear them.

I have an Onkyo 705 (hooked to Pace Aspen HDMI), and it wil change the sound formats for whatever it is recieving from the Shaw/Pace signal. Am I doing something wrong or are the channels not sending the format listed on the info screen?
