Expressvu is great for hd and starchoice is a shaw company, i think so for that one. Also there is telus hd as well, if it's available.

Watching Olympic coverage, the macroblocking has been horrible. Even the sprinting during the 100m has had macroblocking. Called Shaw, they blame the feed. Pfffft.

Well, I have been recording almost all of the Olympics on my Tivo HD OTA and I can tell you that (with CBC at least) it is definitely not the source. It is pure and pristine and no macroblocking at all. Watched a bit of the Olympics on NBC via my Shaw box and the macroblocking was terrible. During diving I was absolutely appalled to see the divers turn into a mass of blocks whenever they had fast rotating motions. Nothing like that on CBC OTA. Didn't watch any CBC on the Shaw box, though.

I've watched cbc hd almost every day, and the PQ has been excellent for the most part. Few odd glitches, but that's the feed I'm pretty sure. I wouldn't expect major issues with the feed, since everyone is getting the same feed from the source. Considering the money they spent for the rights, I'm sure lots of time was spent on QC to make sure everything went well. Sounds like Shaw is just trying to pass the buck.

On vacation the last couple weeks on the other side of the country, the in-laws and my parents both have BEV and watching the olympics on SD the macroblocking has been horrendous.

Not just the olympics either...everything. Frightening really, since I was hoping to ditch Shaw for BEV in the new year,

I am probably logged as a problem customer and if they do stuff like that that’s just sad!

I love the way they keep telling me were working on it. Both Movie Central and the Superchannel 228 have a ridiculous amount of cuts & audio drop outs 25 times or so in a 120 minute movie on MC and on a recent SC reording of DH3.

I tell them that this has been going on for close to a year. They told me they are working with Corus ent. to resolve the MC issue as for 228,

I guess will have to wait and see. Also CBS keeps having audio drops on and off. I am guessing its a signal issue and they just expect us to live with it.

Haven't read the whole thread, but has anyone noticed that the East feed of FOX (203) is really bad lately? Many times I'll tune to the channel and it's not even available. Then when it is, it is full of macroblocking and audio drop outs. Basically unwatchable.

I'd never noticed macroblocking on their Bell before this summer. It wasn't just on the CBC channels either.

Im in BC. And the west Feed of fox channel 203 is basically unwatchable. That is the Seattle station. It is very strange since in the beginning that used to be the best HD channel I had.. It was amazingly crisp and clear, especially for NFL games. Never once had even the slightest Macroblocking...
Channel 223 TLC is also basically unwatchable also..

Oh and why on gods earth was Channel 217 Global even put on the HD channels? Half of the shows that are in HD they dont even show them on HD on this channel. they show them in Standard Def..

Before I went to work this morning the HD channels were pretty bad. Discovery had all sorts of video drops and macroblocking from the slightest bit of motion. Not fast motion, mind you. Motion of any kind. We had guests over so I turned the TV off out of embarrasment.

WOW!!!!

Watching HDnet tnight and it's as good as it's ever looked. I switch over to watch Sportscentre on TSNHD and it's pristine!!! No macroblocking, not even during logo wipes. Tennis hilights, beautiful. Basketball? Perfect. Olympic closing cermonies complete with flashing lights? Just like being there.

Even my girlfriend said she's never seen the cable look this good.

I feel like I've died and gone to heaven.

This is how HD is supposed to look!

I'm recording things now so if it goes back to normal I have something for them to compare to.

Please, please, please stay like this.

I was was watching Peachtree yesterday and almost every break had a Shaw commercial at about twice the volume of the program and the other commercials. Not a good way to prove their "superior sound", if you ask me.

What's next, Billy_Mays (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Mays) for their spokesperson?

Weirdly enough, I'm watching 203 Fox Q13 and it's beautiful. All of my channels, even SD look great. As they were intended. SD looks very close to HD. I'm happy, needless to say.

Oh, and not one single macroblock or sound drop.

Two weeks ago, I lost TSN HD, CBC HD, and PBS HD. Occaisionally, the receiver would tune to the station, but most of the time it would just show the "Channel will be available shortly" message. I've got both an HD PVR (DCT3400) and a straight HD Receiver (DCT6200).

Shaw came in to install an amplifier and that seemed to fix the problem. Yesterday, the problem shows up again. They're sending another tech over tomorrow to check the problem. The CSR said that these HD channels are a problem for the entire Calgary area. Has anyone else seen this problem? Has Shaw been able to fix it?

I'm in the fine line between SW and NW Calgary and haven't ever had a single problem. The cable line was buried in early 1979 (!) and I haven't had a single problem, even back when we had Basic Cable.
