I agree. I have seen the dropout not happen as often, but there's no doubt in my mind the issue has not been resolved as much as they like to think.

I am located in Coquitlam, BC.

YOu can also add channel 209 CBC HD to the list along with the others (210, 211, 212, 218, & 222). Last Saturday and this I have documented 1-2 second audio drops each night. Usually only about 1 per hour but they are there. I know Shaw is working on it to get it fixed before the playoffs though but it may get a little annoying once the playyoffs start and I'll be glued to CBC HD.

I went off on a CSR today (apologizing several times to him while doing so as I know it's not his fault.

Ordered Wrestlemania in HD today...black screen for the first five minutes so I had to order the SD as well, then spent the next ten minutes on the phone with $haw to make sure I get credit for ordering both.

I ranted about how angry and fed up I am with macroblocking, Centre Ice false advertising, audio dropouts andthe snowvision that is CBCHD.

This company is completely unacceptable. They cannot provide the product they advertise. I'm just totally fed up with these guys and frustrated that I'd have to move for things to change.

Retrievil, why would you worry too much about CBC HD, at least from North Van, there shouldn't be any problems getting the CBC HD over-the-air signal at full HD quality. The picture and signal is perfect as always.

I don't have a tuner in my HDTV, and even if I did that's not the point. I'm paying for it so I want a decent picture.

I don't know if I can get Telus Tv here or not. I'd have to see it in action before judging. If it's anything similiar to the horrible quality of Aliant Tv (Eastern Canadian phone carrier) I wouldn't get it.

They're still incredibly Shawdy.

Can't cancel unless I move, or want to go without TV period.

"Shawdy". Fabulous.

That's my new buzz word for telling people what the quality at Shaw is like. Shawdy. Awesome.

I hope that didn't violate any rules, a friend created it awhile ago.

Priceless!! Absolutely priceless.

I think we have our banner for the public protest marches when the law suit gets filed.

I love it. Nice job, jfplay. My compliments to your friend's creativity.

Now all we need is an mpeg version of the logo with built in macroblocking, and background music with a sound drop, and we would be set.

I suggest you all print a copy of that above graphic, and mail it to Shaw head office this week.

This guy from Shaw phoned me over a week ago to tell me that they had the problems solved for all stations except for about 7 of the HD ones (pretty much everything above 211). What a load of crap! I continue to get pixelization on analog, SD and HD channels, and I am getting very long sound drop-offs on the stations he said were fixed. I was watching a movie two nights ago, and the sound, and picture, disappeared for a full 15-20 seconds. It continues to astonish me that the fix eludes them.

I asked the guy if these are the same type of issues that have been encountered by U.S. cable networks, that may have been in business longer than them. If I was running a cable company with these kind of problems, this would be my first line of enquiry. His answer was that the U.S. system is different, so they would have encountered different types of problems that required a different solution. This sounds to me like some sort of double talk.

It's very strange for me that you say you are have long drops of 15-20 seconds as I personally have never experienced anything like that. I do have an occassional audio drop but in the past 2-3 weeks I have noticed that I have not seen them nearly as often as before. Do you have an amp or surround sound unit for audio? If you do check the next time and see if the audio is changing formats (ie from 5.1 to prologic).

You can see why a company may have problems correcting something when 1 person says they have 15-20 second audio drops while the longest i have had is about 4 seconds. Over the last week I have watched nearly 20 hours of HD and only had about 3 audio drops.

I had the picture and sound disappear for 15-20 seconds. It has never happened before or since, but it did happen. It pissed me off because it was at an important point near the end of the movie (which I missed, of course).

As far the other stuff, I continue to get pixelization on stations below 210, which are purported to be fixed.

I do not have any electronics between the wall and my PVR, or the PVR and my plasma TV; and I have had three visits by techs in the last eight months, each of which resulted in my being told that my signal was at the maximum value, and the PVR was working properly (so not the culprit).

Shaw's HD picture quality suffers because it is overly compressed (jamming 3 stations together where only 2 should fit (http://www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/2425/206/)). But we might be able to change that.

Next week Rogers cable customers will start getting overly compressed HDTV for the first time. And they probably won't be too happy with it either.

So the timing may be right for a consumer revolt using our combined forces.

I recently poured over the CRTC notices and discovered that they clearly foresaw this as a potential problem. Luckily for us, their regulations include directives intended to prevent Shaw and other distributors from degrading HDTV with too much compression.

I encourage you to read what I found and submit an online complaint form to the CRTC (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=726794#post726794). It is a very simple process that will take only a minute of your time. Thanks.

p.s. The audio drops we are seeing could also be linked to this re-compression, so that gives you two good reasons to take the time to fill in the CRTC form.

I am confused. I recently sent a fomal complaint to the CRTC, and they informed me that they no longer oversee cable television.
