Hello all,

I am looking to extend my wireless network in order to share files with my neighbours (happens to be my brother). I currently have a D-link G router.

There are 3 options I have been looking at...

1. Get a Linksys WRE54G to extend the wireless network.
2. Get a D-Link Wireless N USB Adapter DWA-130 for my brothers laptop.
or
3. Get a new wireless N router (not sure which one).

He currently has a D-link G wireless adapter in his laptop and gets a very low signal (1 bar) and sometimes is cuts out. I would like to go with option 2 because from what I read an N adapter will greatly increase your signal reception, can anyone atest to that?

Any adivse would be greatly appreciated! :D

1. Where would you place the WRE54G extension? If would have to be near a power outlet.

2 and 3 need to be together. You can't just use an N router OR an N usb adapter and get N coverage.

For simplicity I would try repositioning your router and if that is not possible buy an antenna extension. The higher the better and avoid as many wall as possible.

Thanks Jake.

A power outlet shouldn't be an issue for a WRE54G extension... however I may try and move my router like you mentioned to see if I can work it that way.

I never knew (totally makes sense though) that you couldn't just use 1 or the other (N products), I don't know what I was thinking there.

I'll try moving it around this weekend and see if I can make it better, if not, I'll look into the WRE54G extension further.
