I'm well aware of that. CHAN-TV-2 on Bowen Island is listed as a CTV affliate, but it is owned by Global and is a retransmitter of CHAN

I'm thinking receiving KVOS from parksville/qualicum is going to be hard. If you succeed let us know. I have only been able to get CBC, CTV, Global

We have a condo in the Departure Bay area. From the front side of the condo, which overlooks the bay, you can see the lights on Grouse Mountain. But, our condo is on the back side. I put a UHF loop antenna on top of the TV and picked up 58 (CBC) and 22 (Global). Also got some activity on 33 (CTV), but not enough to get a lock.

If you try a ZSS clone like The Source carries you should be able to get all three. :)

Hi seangraham, there are presently 4 analogue OTA channels in Whistler:

CBC 13
CTV 18
Global 9
CITY 21

There's a possibility you might get other analogue repeaters from the Pemberton, Squamish, and maybe even Lillooet areas but only in oddball weather.
Does anyone have any experience receiving CTV & CITY OTA in Whistler? I'm Creekside and all I'm seeing is snow.

I can tune in CBC and Global and when I switch the TV from 'air' to 'cable' I get very weak Shaw cable signals that must be leaking through the building.

I will try to get to The Source ASAP. With Circuit City down the tubes, who knows how long The Source will remain open.

I dont think the Source has those in stock. You might want to
phone London Drugs though, as they had Terks in stock at some of
their stores.

Yes, the Source (Circuit City) lists them in their catalogue, but cannot get them!?

Tiger Direct has them, but since they willl only ship UPS, I will not deal with them. (Been ripped off too many times by UPS).

I got one on eBay from a retailer out of Ontario who is willing to ship Canada Post.:)

Hi kip, I've moved your post to this thread for Vancouver Island, and you'll find lots of info to give an idea of what you can get.

As far as OTA in Nanaimo goes, it will all depend on where you are and what type of antenna you are using.

Channels that may be recivealble with varing degrees of success with a good antenna. With rabit ears you may get 3 or 4 of these with variang degrees of picture quality.

Analog
Channel-Call Letters-Netork-Signal-location
2 CBUT (CBC) - strong but noisy - [Mt. Seymour]
6 CHEK (E!) - week - [Saltspring Island]
8 CHAN (Global) - strong [Mt. Seymour]
10 CKVU (CityTV) - week [Saltspring Island]
12 KVOS (ind.) - medium -[Mt. Constitution, Ocas Island]
17 CIVI-TV-2 (A Channel) -strong [Mt. Seymour]
23 CHAN-TV-6 (Global) re-transmitter) [Wilson Creek /Nanaimo]
24 KBCB (Shop NBC) - medium [Mt. Constitution, Ocas Island]
26 CBUFT (Radio-Canada) - strong [Mt. Seymour]
32 CIVT (CTV) -strong [Mt. Seymour]
42 CHNM (Omni) - medium [Mt. Seymour]
66 CHNU (JoyTV) -very very week / long shot [Fraser Valley]

I have had NO success in getting Seattle-Tacoma stations.

Digital

Channel-REMAP#-Call Letters-Netork-Signal

19 (24-1) KBCB-DT (Shop NBC) week
22 (8-1) CHAN (Global) medium [Mt. Seymour]
33 (32-1) CIVT-DT (CTV) medium [Mt. Seymour]
35 (12-1) KVOS-DT (Ind.) week
58 (2-1) CBUT-DT (CBC) medium [Mt. Seymour]

For digital channels I would at a minimum recomend the use of an outdoor antenna such as a 4 or 8 bay bowtie. Even if you have to put it in the attic (Indoor use of anttenna causes signal loss).

The only rabbits that have any chance to work for digitals is the silver sensor or trek clone of it but given the distance to Mt. Seymour, in my experince, I would not recomend becasue signal is too week and unreliable with this type of antenna.

Please Note for Ladysmith, Nanaimo and Victoria BC Viewer for KVOS and KBCB

Today, All Analog Signals via OTA is now gone and will need to buy a ATSC Tuner from ebay or other canadian online shopping store that support Paypal or E-mail Money Transfer.

If you have a Onside HD Tuner using Rabbit Ears or Outdoor Antenna in Ladysmith or Nanaimo, BC you will continue to get stations from bellingham in digital 4x3 format

KVOS-DT is 35 mapped as 12.1
KBCB-DT is 19 mapped as 24.1

There is also 3 Off Air ATSC Stations from Vancouver Canada

CBC is 58 mapped at 2.1
CTV is 33 mapped at 32.1
and Good old Global is 22 mapped at 8.1

Analog signal from seattle inculding KOMO, KSTW, KCPQ or KMYQ will continue until june 12 2009 and i tried to get digital stations from seattle in ladysmith bc but no luck at all.

This is going to be confusing to most KVOS viewer via rabbit ears

and if you are going on youtube look up dtv setup old lady

Aplogies in advance. I am a newbie and may be posting this in the wrong thread. I can't seem to find what I am looking for or a place to post my enquiry.

OTA broadcasts in question: Vancouver CBC and others

What is the range of the signals to the south?

I live about 50 km from the broadcast site, south end of SaltSpring Island, almost line of sight to the North Shore mountains, but with some growing trees in the way. I can cut down only the nearest ones. Mountains further indland, around Coquitlam, are clearly visible from my place.

Is there at all a possibility that I will be able to receive the CBC and other signals?
