Of course, PS3 does allow that

Testikoff, so you can confirm positively that the PS3 will allow this :

- If I connect the PS3 with an HDMI-DVI cable to my TV for picture

I can also simultaneously

- Connect the included PS3 A/V cables and only use the (red/white) cables to my TV for sound

I saw somewhere that you have to tell your PS3 what type of connection you're using, so i figured that if you choose one, it would disable the others.

I ended up purchasing a PS3, and I can confirm that the PS3 DOES allow you to connect through the HDMI connection but hear the sound through the AV cables.

By default, I couldn't hear anything at first, but within the menus you can change the setup to set the sound through the red-white cables instead of the HDMI cable.

So there you have it, in case anyone is interested to know in the future.

I have found prices (in Canada) from $19.99 to $79.99 so far for HDMI cables for the Ps3,

brands, Asid, Intec and Rocket Fish.

I was thinking about just getting the $20 intec ?
normally I spend a little more on my cables but I hear it makes no difference, anyone have any feedback re: cable quality/$

If this doesn't step on any sponsor's toes... monoproce.com. I got my PS3's HDMI cable for around $6 US. I also got my generic 360 and Wii component cables there.

monoprice is the place to go for cables, period. I've bought fibre optic, hdmi, component, coax, etc from there.
