I haven't seen this posted anywhere else, and I'm sorry if it has been covered.
I currently have just the basic Shaw Analogue Cable in Calgary (I know, I know, but with a new baby in the house, I just can't swing the $450 for the HD box) and until recently, most of the channels were being delivered in Stereo. However, looking through the channels this week showed me that the vast majority of channels are now being delivered in Mono, with only a few in Stereo. Has anyone else noticed this? I have contacted Shaw, and am waiting for their reply.
While speaking with one of their representatives a few months ago, they basically said that Shaw was trying to migrate their analogue customers to Digital (Of course, it makes them more money) and I was wondering if this move from Stereo to Mono was part of a tactic to make Analogue less attractive, and try to get more people to upgrade?
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

I understand your concern!
but why would u have to buy a hd box??
just tell them to give u a standard one
and also! full analogue cable costs the same as digital no difference.

Only because I have an HDTV, and while I am happy enough with SD for now, if I'm going to buy a $100 SD Digital box, I might as well put it towards an HD box. I don't want to buy a $100 box to get pretty much what I get now, if you see what I mean.

true but tell them u want a free rental which means u have it but they still own it.
or u will switch providers!!
I just checked the analog channels with my built in analog tv tuner and out of the 67 analog channels available 65 were broadcasting the stereo signal. Don’t know if all were running stereo programming but I checked a few and indeed I can hear L R separation. A few channels have the SAP feature and some of those channels were broadcasting different audio on SAP. All is working as it should on my end.

Maybe for some weird reason you accidentally switched your tv to have mono instead of stereo.
I don't know thats what i can think of if EFP still has stereo then so should you!

Nope, CBC Newsworld is in Stereo, and a handfull of other ones as well. The main Canadian and US network channels are all Mono (It says so on screen, and the sound is all out of the center speaker), even with programs that should be Stereo... I'll keep poking around though. Thanks for the info and suggestions!
the sound is all out of the center speaker
What kind of a set up do you have?
Because any thing connected through the analog L and R RCA jacks (am, fm, tv-tuner) passing through my system plays through my left and right speaker channels. Regardless if tuned to a mono or stereo station = it passes through my left and right speakers. If the signal is mono – the same sound passes through both speakers.

I have the cable going directly into the HDTV, then the optical digital output goes to my HK 5.1 Amp. All Mono comes through the center speaker only, while Stereo is processed via Dolby Pro Logic II to all the speakers.
I'm pretty sure it's not my setup because even 1-2 months ago it was fine, and I haven't changed anything. Plus the fact that there are still a few Stereo channels. I still haven't heard from Shaw, but I will keep this thread updated. I appreciate all the help as well!

I'm having problems with certain channels not comming through in stereo.
TSN has a very weak stereo signal right now.
W, EA2, TCM and AMC aren't in stereo at all!
Anyone else having this problem?
