The Commission hereby corrects Broadcasting Public Notice 2007-132 (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Notices/2007/pb2007-132.htm), which was published on 19 November 2007. The reference to Public Notice 1987-261 (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Notices/1987/PB87-261.HTM) in paragraph 5 was incorrect, and paragraph 5 is therefore replaced with the following: The Commission added Turner Broadcasting’s television station WTBS Atlanta to its Lists in Public Notice 1985-72 (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Notices/1985/PB85-72.HTM). The service added was the over-the-air television station serving Atlanta, Georgia, and not the national TBS cable network feed, which has never been authorized for distribution in Canada.

Remember back to when the original channels were going to Cable and DTH.......the local Atlanta station (WTBS) was part of the deal between Canadian DTH/Cable owners and Turner Broadcasting in order to carry CNN and CNN Headline news. Because of that it is unlikely it will removed from Canadian systems pending a lot of negotiations with the current owners.

Their would be no reason for it being removed. We will just have to live with Peachtree Tv. There is nothing stopping a BDU from applying to carry TBS as well.

Yeah, but if you're starting from scratch-- which we are-- would you go for TBS or TNT? You could add TBS because the content on Peachtree TV is very much different.

well shaw was carrying the national tbs feed a few years ago so they must of been breaking the CRTC's rules

WTBS and TBS were the same thing until a couple years ago, so there was no reason to bother looking into it.

i was wondering what was going on with TBS - was down in the states a while ago and they had a bunch of stuff promoted on TBS and it wasn't shown up here  to me for not realizing we never had TBS anymore

re the USA network - where I grew up we had weird cable and we used to get the USA Network for a few years - we also used to get MTV before much music had started up

anyway I alwyas wondered if anyone else had USA network - it had some cool shows for the 80's

USA Network USED to be on the list of eligible services back in the 80s as part of the scrambled pay package until First Choice and 80's/90's Superchannel petitioned to have it removed and replaced with WSBK-TV Boston. FC/SC were claiming that USA was getting into the exact same movies they had just bought rights to and to protect themselves asked for it to be removed. WSBK posed no such threat and about 6 months (i think) after USA got pulled off the list, was brought in to replace it. (in about 1991/92-ish)

Wasn't it just denied after Shaw requested it?

I believe it was Denied, but cause they beleive it was going to compete with another canadian channel.

I know this is bumping a year old thread but ..... Have any of the cable/satellite companies since this date put into a request for a channel license for TBS ?

It's also just funny reading the thread since everyone assumed there would be only a name change yet now a year and a half later, the lineups are completely different

the CRTC *did* say they'd reconsider their denial of Shaw carrying USA Network, becuase shaw asked "well, what if we offer to carry it on a digital cable theme package instead?" the CRTC said "alright. we'll think about it and have a meeting with you at a later date to discuss it". so, we MIGHT see USA Network return, after all. I'm rooting for Shaw Cable on this one.

Now, if we could only get TNT, Showtime, Cinemax, and the kids' channels in america like Nickelodeon, Nicktoons TV, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Disney Channel and Disney-XD (Formerly Toon Disney).... that would be an AWESOME lineup!

as for super channels like WWOR-TV... sure, put them in a separate "American Superstations" package. there's a list of them on wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Superstations and the list of APPROVED stations can be found at these following links:
