: Canada to lose TBS?
mike10 2007-10-06, 05:41 AM Really, When is House of Payne on Peachtree TV? We've had Peachtree for about a week now, and The Bill Engval Show, House Of Payne, etc... are nowhere to be seen. I'v mainly seen the exact same schedule everyday with movies airing nightly.
Also there is no Saved By The Bell anymore which really sucks.
I just assumed that it was still on there because ONX posted something about it
But if you cant find it then it probably is not part of Peachtrees schedule
thenewdc 2007-10-06, 10:03 AM I doubt we will see any original programming on Peachtree like you would on TBS.
oilblue 2007-10-06, 12:47 PM re: My Boys
Guess that blows away the theory this change was nothing more than a rename.
brunes 2007-10-06, 08:03 PM I would like to see USA network, FX and Showtime as well. They have lots of original shows that don't get a decent airing in Canada. Law and Order:CI is on USA instead of NBC this Fall as well. I'm not holding my breath though.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder why I pay good money to the Canadian Awful Broadcasters. :(
NBC dropped Law and Order: CI off it's main network cause it blew :P It was the same show every week, just substitute one crook for another. The acting by the main characters was so horrible and predictable. Glad it is gone, makes space for a better show. If only CTV HD would drop it too.
Bytown 2007-10-06, 09:52 PM Brunes
So you don't like law and order ci thats your choice. However do you speak for the rest of north america.Ci does have a big following and will do all right. There are many many other shows that are much worse then law and order ci.
denben73 2007-11-19, 11:51 AM Not a really big deal, but I noticed today that the CRTC has updated their list of eligible satellite services with the call letters change. This is pretty quick for them. How long did it take them to take CBS Toledo (WTOL) off the list of CBS affiliates? 2 maybe 3 years after it switched to WWJ from Detroit....;)

It's interesting that the national cable-only TBS channel isn't "authorized" in Canada. I always thought that some companies were still carrying it.
thenewdc 2007-11-19, 03:51 PM TBS the cable station was never authorized in Canada , only WTBS Atlanta. Mind you, because of the nature of the programming on TBS, I dont think it would have any difficulty getting approval in Canada, except some of its movies may not have Canadian rights. Over the air stations are not subject to program rights issues. Rogers still lists Peachtree as TBS, someone over there needs to wake-up. By the way, the daytime schedule for Peachtree is an improvement over the TBS daytime schedule.
microsoap 2007-11-19, 05:20 PM Oh, yeah. Who in the hell wants to watching Dawson's Creek reruns (TBS)? :p
I enjoy their retro sitcom block weekday mornings (Peachtree TV).
ringmaster 2007-11-21, 06:27 PM TBS used to show "yes dear" Peachtree doesn't.
I have BEV and a search for Yes Dear and NO STATION is showing it.
shawguy 2007-11-21, 07:00 PM What I hate about Peachtree TV is showing the atlanta weather and news at the start of the hour.....I don't care! lol

oilblue 2007-11-21, 08:06 PM "My Boys" is another example of a show that used to air up here on "TBS" but doesn't on Peachtree, or anywhere else. D'oh.
westcoastinc 2007-11-22, 09:49 AM This is hurting me. I love watch Saved by the bell every morning. Im devastated even though ive seen every episode 25 times. The time slot they put Saved by the Bell in was perfect for me since im up at that time with nothing to do.
cablewithaview 2007-11-22, 10:49 AM Go to http://www.peachtreetv.com/ and contact them, let them know what you do and don't like about the changes.
the yates tub 2007-11-22, 04:23 PM Complaining to them will get you nowhere. Peachtree TV doesn't care about Canada. They're a local Atlanta channel first and foremost, and they don't receive compensation for Canadian carriage nor do they receive advertising dollars for it. In the US, local TV stations care only about local ad dollars, as the FCC does not permit local stations to broadcast nationally from satellite anyway. And the ones that do thanks to grandfathered regulations, like this one and KTLA, WPIX, KWGN, WGN, WAPA, WKAQ, WSBK, and WWOR still act like the national broadcast doesn't exist.
cablewithaview 2007-11-22, 06:27 PM Turner Networks are compensated for their signal to Canada. If SAT/CATV operators in Canada was broadcasting the feed without permission would cause some major problems. Also in order for operators in Canada to receive the feed, they would have to get authorization of that feed. The feed is encrypted in Power Vu mode on G15. As for US superstations, WGN, WSBK, KTLA, KWGN, WWOR and WPIX are the remaining true superstations recognized by the FCC (http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Cable/News_Releases/2000/nrcb0024.txt). So if Canada is truely watching without compensation, then some operators are in trouble for sure.
Also to note, the feed on F1R ku is also encrypted in Digicipher II mode which still requires authorization for viewing. Contracts HAVE to be in place.
mtlnorm 2007-11-22, 06:44 PM From the CRTC site mentioned:
Turner stated that the change would be a "mere renaming of the existing television station that will not have any impact on the nature of the service, or the technical characteristics of the WTBS signal"
That is simply not true.
As others have mentioned, "My Boys" is no longer shown.

Also, as stated before, I hate the weather and traffic stuff and especially, the constant over promotion of the station.
If I see the twirling street sign again...
cablewithaview 2007-11-22, 07:15 PM I wonder who will fill a compliant with the CRTC first?
HT gearhead 2007-11-22, 10:45 PM Go ahead and complain to the CRTC, then they'll just pull the channel from their eligibility list. That'll show 'em. ;)
cablewithaview 2007-11-23, 01:22 AM I figure WPCH will be pulled, then again baseball season with 45 Braves games on it, who knows. Out of the superstations NOT on SC, I would like to see WWOR come on line.
Kloraff 2007-11-23, 07:22 AM Personally I rather prefer WPCH-TV now to what we had before. The News/Weather/Traffic thing also doesn't really bother me much, but i can see how it could be argued that it would be best left on the morning Headline news program, or at least reduced in size during its appearances at other times of the day. To be fair, the station is finally looking like the local U.S. OTA station it was meant to be rather than the "cable channel affiliate" we had of TBS before.
