: Canada to lose TBS?
cablewithaview 2007-09-09, 05:39 PM TBS and WTBS does vary in programming some.
Rates are not different between programming fees for TBS and WTBS, they are the same. In Atlanta they can get both.
Peachtree will also air 45 Atlanta Braves games as well.
Here is a link out of Atlanta concerning this:
WTBS to become Peachtree TV (http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2007/06/25/daily32.html)
TBS Super station is also ending their run of the Braves games at the end of the '07 season. So to continue to watch the Braves, best bet will be Peachtree TV. Link: http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060711&content_id=1552889&vkey=news_atl&fext=.jsp&c_id=atl
bigoranget 2007-09-09, 05:50 PM I would much prefer to have TBS because they share the first two rounds of the MLB playoffs with FOX. I really don't want to watch the playoffs on The Score.
Crawler 2007-09-10, 09:24 AM The Score? Rogers Sportsnet has MLB rights in Canada.
While ideally I'd like both :-), I would also prefer the national TBS as, more importantly than the post-season games which we'd get one way or another anyways, they will also have a Sunday afternoon game of the week throughout the regular season, which I doubt a Canadian broadcaster would pick up (seeing how Rogers Sportsnet already carries the Sunday night ESPN game, and usually has Jays games in the afternoon).
The national TBS is also likely to have an HD channel available for carriage, while the local station may not.
Tuttle 2007-09-20, 10:04 PM Another week to find out what we get. I looked at zap2it.com listings and it shows the schedule for Peachtree TV in the WTBS spot. I wonder if that means that Peachtree is coming to Canada and we lose another national US channel.
bigoranget 2007-09-20, 10:31 PM I personally think we will end up with the national TBS at some point, although that may not happen come Oct 1st.
cablewithaview 2007-09-20, 11:35 PM I haven't been able to get anything on this from some "insiders", they all have been quite about this.
kirjtc2 2007-09-21, 09:53 AM I agree with bigoranget. They'll strategically wait until after the MLB playoffs (since Sportsnet and all that might have their say) to make the switch.
Tuttle 2007-09-21, 10:59 PM I personally think that if we don't get the TBS feed starting October 1st then we probably won't get it. I really hope that come October 1st, they (TBS satellite personnel) flip the switch that enables TBS to come to Canada.
cablewithaview 2007-09-29, 11:54 PM From what I have been told, WTBS Canada will stay the same.
thenewdc 2007-09-30, 09:53 AM It may stay the same, but they cant continue calling it TBS when its not. It will confuse viewers who identify with the TBS name. This could generate a lot of calls to BDU's call centers asking where is TBS?
thenewdc 2007-09-30, 09:56 AM Another interesting aspect of the whole thing is whether or not TBS has Canadian rights to its movies and other programming? Since WTBS or WPCH is an over-the-air channel, rights are a non-issue at present. No BDU in Canada has used the TBS feed for a few years now, so TBS may have stopped purchasing Canadian program rights. We may be stuck with WPCH, although its daytime programming looks superior to the daytime TBS programming.
SMCKINNON24 2007-09-30, 10:21 AM Canada will be getting the TBS when switches to peachtree Tv on October 1, Expect to see Other companies sk the CRTC to add the national Feed TBS to list to eglible services and carry both services
Bytown 2007-09-30, 10:43 AM So i am taking it as we will miss the 1st round of mlb play offs.
kirjtc2 2007-09-30, 11:59 AM Not true. They'll be on Sportsnet.
SilentAssasin23 2007-09-30, 07:56 PM Okay so, is Canada getting PeachtreeTV or the national TBS feed? I hope for the latter.......
cablewithaview 2007-09-30, 10:41 PM I say we get both and be done with it.
Musashii 2007-10-01, 12:05 AM I have already seen the switch, because usually from monday to friday from 7am to 9am TBS shows Saved By The Bell, well tomorrow it has:
The following programming on TBS for Monday October 1st 2007
6am: Headline News
7am: Mad About You
7:30am: The Nanny
8am: Different Strokes
9am: All in the Family
10am: Temptation
11am: The Jeffersons
12pm: Sanford and Son
1pm: Steve Harvey
2pm: Cosby Show
3pm: Still Standing
4pm: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
5pm: King of Queens
6pm: Friends
6:30pm: Seinfeld
7pm: Family Guy
8pm: Friends
9pm: The Matrix Reloaded
11:30pm: Seinfeld
and its mainly that schedule for the rest of the week, and it does not show any MLB Playoff coverage.
and by the way who the heck decided to come up with the name PeachTree TV, what a dumb name that is.
cablewithaview 2007-10-01, 12:21 AM Musashii, if you was from the south, you would understand. Georgia is well known for it's peach crop. Atlanta is the heart (capitol) of the state.
