As of July 10, the PlayStation 3's North American price point is going south. The next-generation console will cost $499 in the US and $549 in Canada, the same price as the discontinued 20GB model.

how can Sony look the media in the face next time they want to categorically deny a rumour?!?!? it's quite funny actually.

no more ifs:

So now you can buy an Elite for 479.99 or a PS3 for 499.99. Not much of a price argument any longer (and a blu-ray player is built in for that $20). Yes, 60gb storage difference in the 360's favour, but I don't consider that much of a selling point.

Come one Cal, do you think that price advantage will last long? You can bet MS will announce price drops on all 3 360 skus before long. They're all about pissing on Sony's picnic.

$549 CDN isn't bad for a PS3... I might just bite the bullet now so I can enjoy a few BD movies. :)

If you're talking from a movie stand point, sure, but from gaming, doesn't matter how cheap the PS3 is right now, they have no games! I own a 360 and will probably get a PS3 simply to use as a BD player, hopefully they'll get some games that make it worthwhile as a console though, but who knows.

When you factor in the PS3's Blu Ray player, it's no contest as to the superior console.
