Everywhere else in the world cell charges go down, but in Canada...

Got a text message this weekend letting me know Rogers is upping the long distance rate from 25 cents to 30 cents for calls within Canada, effective August 1st.

Nice.

Effective August 1, 2007, the Auto Saver rate on Anytime will change to 32¢ and the Anytime regular rate will change to 40¢.

Way to be competitive, Rogers. Makes me take a closer look at those cheap-o 7-11 plans I've been hearing about.

What I'd love to see happen with Rogers PAYGo is a rehaul of the voicemail. I'd have no problem paying forty bleedin' cents a minute if I could check my voicemail for free (hell, charge me when people leave messages, but not when I have to listen to them!)...

Can we get a thread title change to remove the "LD" part, as Rogers PAYGo is raising ALL the rates?

Yes - my wife received her notice of a 21% rate increase in todays mail. She just topped up her phone with a $100 card that is good for one year. We have been very pleased with the approx $8/mo plan as she just about uses $100 per year.

They say why pay .40 min - we have a great deal - just move to the Anytime plan and rate drops from .40/min to .25 except you need to buy a minimum $20/mo top-ups.

Tried to call but Pay as you Go only to find they have no customer service except automated FAQ phone service. Time to notify the media I guess.

Pay as you go does have operators but only after you go thru their automated labyrinth and only during business hours...9 to 5 Mon to Fri.

you can also change your plan online. That is what I did as I just switched to the a buck a day to get 30 per minute for weekdays and unlimited evening and weekend with the minimum 20 buck top up.

A reason for increase is for the new services which includes US Roaming.

Where do you see that US Roaming is included?

BTW T-Mobile's US$100 card (http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/Default.aspx?plancategory=4) provides .10 cents a minute INCLUDING nationwide LD. And Mr Rogers claims us Canucks have lower rates?

It says it in the letter that I got today. Second line of the first paragraph.

If you don't have that letter, I can scan it and show it to you.

Well DSgamby I would suggest you have wishfull thinking. It does not say the new rate includes at no additional charge US roaming it says "-new features like US Roaming"

At the moment you need to request roaming and then pay a huge premium. In the past Rogers have not included as standard due unsuspecting users burning through their credits at $2.49/minute. Our US counterparts (T-mobile) pay .40/min while roaming in Canada yet Ted Rogers says we have lower rates.

I never said that the US Roaming charging is including in the increase. The increase regarding US Roaming was probably meant to "lower the cost" for it.

I know it is 2.49 per minute for a wack load of US Roaming stuff including calls and text.

I got the buck a day plan and I have no use for the US Roaming now.

Before the increase, US roaming wasn't even an option if you were on the pay as you go plan....I didn't try this but was told at time of purchase. So I assume from what I'm hearing here that it is now an option although ridiculously expensive.
