Go to Quebec...

If you're lucky enough to straddle the Quebec border, you can save big!

Currently the mandated floor prices for beer in Quebec are:

$20.39 for "light beer", eg. Coors Light, Bud Light, Ex Light etc.

$22.34 for "regular beer", eg. Blue, Ex, Bud, Molson Dry etc.

GST/PST and deposit additional.

During the summer, actually most of the year, the grocers and some deps pretty much sell at the floor price. Might pay a couple of bucks more in late fall and the dead of winter, but one of them always has it cheap.

Want some expensive beer? I'm on business in Norway for the summer, and a 6-pack of the local brew (not a case, but a 6-pack) costs 130 Kroner at the market. This works out to $23CAD. A case would set me back $92CAD. Don't even get me started on import beers.

If I head out to a patio, a local beer will set me back around 60 Kroner. This works out to $10.50CAD for a single beer.

About a year ago I asked this question.

I just noticed my math was off in post #1 but excluding tax and deposit the base price was $21.90 for regular beer and $19.99 for light beer. I guess they have been 'adjusted for inflation' since then. :D

But the article claims he paid $26.94 after taxes and deposit or a $21.54 base price. Hmmm

FYI: In Quebec PST is applied to GST. That works out to a 0.2105% tax bonus.

You don't need to go to Norway to order expensive beer. If head out to Melrose Bar's patio on 17th Avenue in Calgary, one Stella will set you back around $9.00 CAD. :)

You talk about being expensive...back in 87, in Tromso, beer was almost $7.00 CAD..I guess the loonie is worth much more in Kroners than in 87!!!
