I don't follow the situation in Ottawa that closely but how does the GM of the team that went to the Finals get fired? Do Muckler and Melnyk hate each other or maybe Murray and Muckler?

Rumour is Eugene told Muckler to GET Gary Roberts at the trade deadline in March and he didn't get he job done.

Its muklers not willing to make a big deal that is why he is gone.

So if we had of had Gary Roberts we would have done better in the 4th round ???

Not really a surprise considering it's Muckler's job to retain and/or procure talent. I don't think losing Chara or Havlat in the previous off-season helped his cause any.

They could have lost in four games.

For a team with the Senators record to be fired it really has to be about some kind of "conflict of direction". Whether is specifically about Roberts doesn't really matter.

GMs and coaches know that they are subject to this kind of thing. Just look at what happened in New Jersey.

Gary Roberts specifically said he wanted to play in Ottawa or Toronto. He was one of the most highly coveted players at the trade deadline. Yet somehow muckler couldnt pull off the deal. I do believe his added toughness and skill would have helped them out.

But luckily he went to the pens, who are my fav team (ottawa being second)

Muckler has been fired, Murray promoted to GM.

So Muckler is out, Murry is GM, and a new coach will be hired....

I understand that there always has to be a scape goat.....but I'm not sure this will fix anything.

From press conference:
Murray will not be a coach/GM. He will try to hire a caoch within 2 to 3 weeks.

Rumour is Eugene told Muckler to GET Gary Roberts at the trade deadline in March and he didn't get he job done.
Eugene has said in the past that he would never interfere with the "hockey decisions" of the organization, as he realizes he is not an expert.

Maybe Eugene has changed his mind. :)

Sources say a key factor in Muckler's demise was the inability to get winger Gary Roberts from Florida at the trade deadline in March -- defying specific instructions from Melnyk to do so.

The press conference was on TSN HD in HD with many of the clips in HD....

I guess if the boss tells you to do something and you don't and the outcome of the season isn't what you wanted you get shown the door. Now that makes sense to me.

BTW, Murray was a pretty good GM in Anaheim. A lot of that young talent that beat the Sens came from his time there.

It is alot more then the roberts deal.Mucks has been unwilling to make deals that would help the team.Ottawa had a great chance to get roberto from florida. The panthers were asking for eavs & spezza/emery mucks would not make the deal.

Very true. He will be missed as coach though, at least by me!!

summerfan,

Well, being a Canucks fan, I'm quite glad Muckler was your GM last year because Luongo kicks a$$.

Speaking of the Canucks, I wonder if they will be the next Canadian team to lose in the finals.
