I haven't had my 1st bill yet with Rogers (home phone) as I've only had the home phone a few days. I have it bundled with my cable TV and internet. I really thought the home phone was cheaper but after reading post here I find that may not be true ...hell right now I have no idea what my home phone bill will be. They say I'll save 10% with this bundle .....10% of what ? Am I really saving ? BTW the service and phone quality are very good with my experience ....so far.

10% of what? You'll get 10% off your charges for home phone, for cable charges and for internet charges. So if your bill for those three is normally $150/mo, it would be reduced to $135. This assumes you have no "special deals" on any of the 3, as the 10% discount doesn't apply on something that is already specially discounted. I suggest you wait for your first bill to find out?

I'm surprised you went with Home Phone, if you don't know what they will be charging? It all depends on what services you have, your long distance calling patterns, and which plan you were under with your previous phone service provider.

Some people save a lot using "home phone", due to their services and calling patterns, while others may not save at all. Also, I believe there are no charges when you call other Rogers phone users?

Home Phone is pretty expensive overall, I know because I have it ;)

I got rolled-over from my Sprint plan, then I had a package that ran about $45 for the line, a few features and 100mins of LD. Trouble is, that package expired in June and my wife was always going well over the LD cap and we were paying $55 to $60/mo.

I just switched to a new plan line+3 features ($34.95 plus another $8 for vmail) and took the all u can eat LD option @ $19.95/mo.

They've screwed up my bill for the last two months (I was way pissed to learn that voice mail can not be included as a feature, but is billed extra), but I figure that with the $4.50 access, the 911 and TTY fees, I'll be up for just under $70/mo when all said and done.

Lucky for me that I'm moving in August and will be dropping this service in a hurry. Since I'm moving into their cable region, I'll have the option of their deluxe VOIP plan @ $34.95/mo = half what I'm paying on home phone (same service), plus 10% bundling discount if I take cable TV and internet, and 15% if I switch to their mobile phone.

Are you sure you have Rogers Home Phone or is it the POTS service the took over from Sprint and provide in areas where they can't offer digital phone service over cable (which is what Home Phone is)?

I was inherited from Sprint as well and switched o Home Phone about a month ago. With the old POTS service, and with the new digital service, basic voice mail was included as one of my features and is a lot less than $8. Are you requesting deluxe voice mail and that is why you are getting the high cost?

I have received by last POTS bill (billed in arrears) and my first digital Home Phone bill (billed in advance as with cable and internet service) and both were correct, down to credits and charges for everything for the ONE day between my digital installation and my billing cycle date.

There are many ways to swing this cat over your head but, in general, Rogers Home Phone + Long Distance is about $10/mth cheaper than the same offering from Bell in the Toronto area. As pointed out, you can also save a bit more if you have other Rogers services.

I've had it for two years and there were some issues early on, and at least one in 2007; I had virtually none as a Bell subscriber for 25 years previously. But ok, it's newer technology and I was an early user AND I am saving abut 20% per month net-net over Bell's rates.

The clincher is I am a very light Home Phone user and have a cell as back-up so the "risk-reward ratio" easily tips in Roger's favour. In truth, the majority of calls are: tele-marketers, the front door, and, a distant third, calls from people I know and, a very distant fourth, outgoing calls I place.

If there was a "pay per call" option I'd probably pay 20% of what I do now. I'd hate to calculate the cost on a "per outgoing call" basis.

Bottom line: I'm very glad I have a choice.

I am a very light landline user so with Telus, my cost is $23+$5=$28 plus LD.
Just called Rogers and they gave me $17 + LD for 12 months. And here in Calgary, Rogers Home Phone is landline too so I'm saving $10 a month for 12 month.

Pretty sure it's home phone, but it is pots, since they don't do cable or voip in Coldgary. I was on the Home Connections package until it expired in June.

Problems arose when they arbitrarily decided on a new plan for me, which I didn't like, plus I learned that my deluxe voice-mail is now $8/mo instead of bundled as a feature.

It was also a PIA to update my expired credit card info; can't do it via their IVR, you have to speak to a person. Grrr!, more wasted time on the phone.

Despite the recent problems, I'll probably migrate to their cable+voip+internet for the simple reason that it's a competitively priced bundle and they won't be able to "blame the other guy" (that I see so much of here) if e.g. I take primus for voip.
