has anyone been able to use Rogers portable modem with Bell Unplugged service?

they both seem to be using the same NextNet RSU-2510-FV modem. the price is very different though: $100 for Rogers vs $250 for Bell. i called Bell support and they asked for the MAC address and said that it is mandatory to purchase the modem from Bell !?
