What a load of crap. This is not a carbon tax, its a tax on oil companies. If this was a tax on carbon, then why is there no tax on coal producers?

I actually support the notion of carbon taxes but let's call this what it is, a ploy by Quebec to extort cash from the oil companies under the guise of environmentalism

There is absolutely no doubt they will pass the burden onto consumers. It will essentially be a tax on quebec motorists.

[The carbon tax] will raise about $200 million a year to pay for energy-saving initiatives such as improvements to public transit.I expect that a good portion of that $200M will end up squandered on useless/frivolous/unrelated "initiatives".

What a silly tax. Why not simply add the tax to the price of gas (the existing provincial tax) instead of making yet more bureaucracy. The people will end up paying anyway.

For any environmental improvement initiatives such as this tax, the people will pay.

Next, they'll tax propane used on barbeques... lots of smoke coming out of them burned burgers. :o
